[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join us on Tuesday 16 May 2017 for a special SWIC Art & Culture event at Macquarie University.
The Sculpture Park’s significance is globally recognised by the International Directory of Sculpture Parks, and was listed by Best Value Schools as one of the 25 most amazing sculpture gardens in the world.
Our morning commences in the Macquarie University Art Gallery at 11.00am with a guided tour of the current exhibition – ‘Ildiko Kovacs and James Drinkwater: Interconnections from the Collection’. The exhibition explores changing ideas and perceptions to abstract painting in Australia from a focus on the materiality of painting itself to a more narrative approach that generates meaning. Ildiko and James’ works are recent donations.
The University Art Collection forms a basis from which in-house curated exhibitions are developed. The Art Collection encompasses modernist works (Australian and International) and emphasises contemporary art practice that includes artists such as Arthur Boyd, John Brack Sidney Nolan, Bronwyn Bancroft Marion Borgelt and many more. The collection comprises a range of media from painting, photography, video, prints and drawings to glassware, ceramics and textiles.
After a short break for a Cup of Tea /Coffee we will reconvene for a tour of the Sculpture Garden.
SWIC Tour of the Sculpture Garden
The University’s open parkland of 126 hectares features significant flora and fauna reserves, heritage sites, and an earth sciences garden. Peppered among these natural features are some 130 original sculptures by leading and emerging Australian and international sculptors.
The Sculpture Park is a ‘space of possibilities’, where the environment and people interconnect through a process of discovery, enjoyment and learning.
Lunch will be in the Library Café and is at your own expense.
