SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'White Pearl' - Wharf 1 Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Anchuli Felicia King\nDirected by Priscilla Jackman \nThere’s no such thing as bad publicity… \nFrom the brilliant mind of Anchuli Felicia King\, White Pearl was a runaway smash on its 2019 Sydney premiere with co-producer Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta. After a hit season at Queensland Theatre in 2021\, this knockout production will return in 2022\, this time at The Wharf. \nBehind the sleek and unblemished facade of CleardayTM cosmetics — a market leader in Asia’s booming beauty industry — the scars of deep-seated prejudice are waiting to re-emerge. A team of young and ambitious women from across Asia is working to generate buzz for their new skin-whitening cream ‘White Pearl’. The problem? An ad in development has leaked early and it’s making headlines for all the wrong reasons. As views skyrocket and the ad is shared around the world\, the team races against the clock to get the situation under control\, to save their jobs and to lay the blame squarely elsewhere. \nWith razor-sharp dialogue\, nail-biting tension\, and caustic wit\, this rollercoaster of a production takes a nuanced swipe at cancel culture and toxic corporations\, exploring intra-Asian politics\, 21st century racism and the dark side of going viral. \nApprox. duration 1 hr 25 mins (no interval)\nContent Strong language\, adult themes\, sexual references and themes of racial prejudice. White Pearl dissects aspects of race and culture and contains content that may be confronting for some audience members. \nDATE: Wednesday 30 March 2022 \nTIME: 7.30pm \nVENUE: Wharf 1 Theatre\, Wharf 4/5\, 15 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay\, Sydney\, NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Adult A Reserve $70\, B Reserve $66\, Seniors cardholder $70 \nPurchase your tickets at https://www.sydneytheatre.com.au/whats-on or by phone at the Box office on (02) 9250 1777 \nCherry and I have booked our tickets for Seats K5 and K6. \nPRE-THEATRE: (Optional): Join Judith and Cherry for pre-theatre Dinner at ‘The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf’ at 6.00pm \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au\, indicating whether you would like to join us for pre-theatre dinner\, as booking a table is required \nRSVP BY: Monday 21 March 2022 \n**************************************** \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2022 \nTo enable you to plan your diary\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for the remainder of 2022. DESCRIPTION:This month we are in for a special late Sunday afternoon treat at Belvoir\, enabling our members who have weekday commitments to attend. \nIn a street out the back of Kings Cross is a very special place – the Wayside Chapel. It’s a haven for the poor\, the excluded\, the misfits. It’s a place of faith and a place of love. And it’s a place where people could declare their love – sometimes in the face of fierce resistance from family\, from society\, from the church hierarchy. It’s a play of quiet heroism and heartache. \nWritten by Alana Valentine and co-directed by Hannah Goodwin and Eamon Flack\, ‘Wayside Bride’ is based around stories that Belvoir asked from people who had married at the Wayside Chapel. \nCommissioned and developed by Belvoir with the assistance of Wayside Chapel\, the Noffs Foundation\, the City of Sydney and Griffin Theatre Company. \nDATE: Sunday 10 April 2022 (Preview session) \nTIME: 6.30pm \nVENUE: Upstairs Theatre\, Belvoir Street Theatre\, Gadigal Country\, 25 Belvoir Street\, Surry Hills\, NSW 2010 \nTICKETS: Preview $52\nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets G33 and G34\nTo buy your tickets visit www.belvoir.com.au or ring the Box Office on 9699 3444 \nPRE-THEATRE SNACKS/DRINKS (Optional): Join us at the downstairs Theatre Bar for snacks and chat before the performance at 5.30pm \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au \nRSVP BY: 5 April 2022 \n***************************************************************************\nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2022\nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2022\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for the remainder of 2022. SUMMARY:Monthly Activity - Bush Tucker Tour at the Royal Botanic Garden
DESCRIPTION:We will walk with our First Nations guide through the Royal Botanic Garden to learn more about Indigenous bush foods and how these foods were used traditionally and adapted to the modern plate and palate. On our one-hour tour\, we’ll journey through the Cadi Jam Ora garden and learn about some of the hottest bush foods on the market right now\, all while tasting some goodies yourself! The tour will involve pre-prepared tastings of finger lime\, wattle seed\, lilly pilly\, lemon myrtle and Davidson plum. \nPrior to this arranged tour\, we recommend a free add-on in the form of a visit to the Inside the Tide exhibit and some lunch at one of the Botanic Garden outlets. \nCombining the theatrical with horticulture\, Inside the Tide creates a surreal\, magical and playful display. Telling the stories of hero plants in three aquatic communities: Kelp Forests\, Coral Reefs and Seagrass Meadows\, wander through what feels like an under the sea experience and watch a pantomime come to life. Come face to face with giant sea creatures like the topiary blue whale\, a chandelier of jellyfish or blue ringed octopus with interactive elements both children and adults will enjoy. \nThis year’s display has also enlisted the help of hundreds of school children from across NSW\, who in 2021 created Codium seaweeds when undertaking educational workshops with the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney\, learning about the threats to coastal environments and how to best care for habitats. \nInside the Tide has over 20\,000 plants on display and is one of the largest living green walls in the Southern Hemisphere. Curated by the horticultural team at the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney and presented in partnership with Erth. \nMasks are currently mandatory at the Botanic Garden. \nDATE: Thursday 28 April 2022 \nTIME: 1.00pm- 3.30pm\nThe guided tour will commence at 2.30pm from the Garden Shop and run for one hour. \nWe will meet at 1.00pm for a free walk around the Inside the Tide exhibit and some lunch and be ready for our guide at 2.30pm. \nLimit of 25 people MAX \nVENUE: Royal Botanic Garden Sydney\, Mrs Macquarie’s Rd\, Sydney NSW 2000\n \nCOST: $27 \nRSVP TO: swic.activitymonthly@gmail.com with your name and mobile phone number and wait for confirmation of a place before paying \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: \nPayment Option 1 (Preferred):\nBy Credit Card through the Payments section of the website \nPayment Option 2: Online (direct deposit) into the SWIC bank account \nAccount Name: SWIC Inc. \nBSB No: 112-879 \nAccount No: 431-019-281 \nDescription: Monthly Activity + your initial and surname \nTRANSPORT: The Botanic Gardens are easily accessible from the CBD \nPlease check their website for information on parking. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' - Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Oscar Wilde \nAdapted and directed by Kip Williams \nA breath-taking reimagining of an Oscar Wilde classic \nOscar Wilde’s century-old moral fable\, packed with witticisms\, is as devilishly wicked today as on its debut. \nSeeing himself in a dazzling new portrait\, an exquisite young man makes a Faustian wish for eternal youth. Dorian Gray throws himself into a life of wanton luxury\, drifting from the pampered salons of Victorian London to the darkest recesses of the capital\, and revelling in the splendour of his beauty which remains forever golden. Meanwhile\, the portrait – banished to an attic – becomes more and more grotesque. \nThis new interpretation of Wilde’s only novel is adapted and directed by Artistic Director Kip Williams. Collaborating once again with Eryn Jean Norvill (Suddenly Last Summer\, Romeo and Juliet)\, Williams’ re-imagining will see Norvill performing every role in the story in an audacious cascade of theatrical transformations. The inventive use of live video that made Suddenly Last Summer and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui so visually compelling will capture and amplify every move. \n“The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.”  Lord Henry \nContent – Adult themes\, drug use\, suicide\, theatrical haze\, herbal cigarettes \nDATE: Tuesday 3 May 2022 \nTIME: 6.30pm (approx. duration 2 hours\, no interval) \nVENUE: Roslyn Packer Theatre\, 22 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Seniors Act 1 Season Ticket $84\, Adult A Reserve $110\, B Reserve $102\, Seniors $102 \nNote: The Convenors have purchased seats B21 and B22 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.sydneytheatrecompany.com \nPOST-THEATRE SUPPER (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for a post-theatre supper at a restaurant in Walsh Bay. SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Day Trip to Retford Park Bowral (CANCELLED DUE TO INSUFFICIENT NUMBERS)
DESCRIPTION:Retford Park is a place of great heritage significance. Its European history extends back to grants of land promised to Edward Riley senior by Governor Macquarie in 1821. In 1964 James Fairfax AC bought the property and started to turn it from an agricultural property into a gentleman’s residence.
