SUMMARY:Monthly Activity - Utzon and the Sydney Opera House Architectural Tour
DESCRIPTION:This month we are going to tour an architectural tour de force – the Sydney Opera House! \nOn 28 June 2007 the Sydney Opera House was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the World Heritage Convention\, placing it alongside the Taj Mahal\, the ancient Pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China as one of the most outstanding places on Earth. \nThis tour\, led by architect Eoghan Lewis\, will draw you into the amazing visionary world of the architect of the Sydney Opera House through the eyes of its creator\, Danish architect Jørn Utzon. \nDiscussing the sources of the young architect’s deepest inspiration\, his working methods and influences\, we will discover the development of Utzon’s ideas and their materialisation in the Sydney Opera House. \nThe political events that led to his undoing in 1966 will be discussed and we will be able to see Utzon’s own drawings and models to unpack his intended but ultimately unrealised designs for the interiors. \nDATE: Thursday 26 May 2022 \nTIME: 10.00am-12.30pm \nLimit of 30 people MAX \nMEET: 9:45am for 10:00am start at the Sydney Botanic Gardens Gate\, near the eastern edge of the Sydney Opera House platform. \nCOST: $35.00 \nRSVP TO: swic.activitymonthly@gmail.com with your name and mobile phone number and wait for confirmation of a place before paying \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: \nPayment Option 1 (Preferred):\nBy Credit Card through the Payments section of the website \nPayment Option 2: Online (direct deposit) into the SWIC bank account \nAccount Name: SWIC Inc. \nBSB No: 112-879 \nAccount No: 431-019-281 \nDescription: Monthly Activity + your initial and surname \nWhat Else? \nPlease arrive at the meeting point 10-15 minutes prior to tour departure. Depending on numbers they will hand out a wireless audio system. \nWhatever happens with regard to the weather\, we will walk! Bring a sun hat\, umbrella\, camera\, sketch book and so on. \nThe Guide \nThe tour will be led by architect Eoghan Lewis\, founder of Eoghan Lewis Architects (www.eoghanlewis.com.au) and the Sydney Architecture Walks (SAW). Eoghan has been studying and sharing the work of Utzon with professional groups and the public for the last 21 years through SAW. \nAbout SAW \n‘We are architects and we conduct tours of Sydney on foot and on bicycle. Each tour is a straightforward and jargon-free story-telling journey that explores ideas through architecture\, offering an interface between in-depth architectural knowledge and the wider design-conscious community. We want you to understand the how and why of the city whilst we explore and unpack Sydney’s most provocative and daring projects; works of contemporary architecture\, public art and landscape that inspire and delight but also projects that reveal something of Sydney’s grimy pulse. All our tours are led by architects.’

SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'A Doll's House'
DESCRIPTION:Join us in June for an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play. \nAdapted for the stage by Joanna Murray-Smith \nDirector – Mark Kilmurry \nTo the world\, Nora Helmer has it all: a well-respected husband\, an immaculate home and three darling children. But underneath the façade of a confident modern woman juggling her life\, lies a secret. Or two. When an old ghost comes knocking on the Helmer’s door\, their seemingly solid marriage is shaken to the core. \nChantelle Jamieson (‘Killing Katie: Confessions of a Book Club’) fiercely steps into the shoes of one of the most iconic female characters in dramatic history. After fruitlessly spending ages checking out places on the internet\, I have made a booking for later than usual at Mosman Rowers. I have needed to provide my credit card as security\, so it is essential that you don’t cancel at the last minute and only six places have been reserved. Going forward\, I have decided to make a regular booking at Zebra Lounge\, Pyrmont\, rather than trying to look for alternatives. \nDATE:  Sunday 10 July 2022 \nTIME: 10:20am (no 10.00am time slot available) \nVENUE:  Mosman Rowers\, 3 Centenary Drive\, Mosman – Tel: 8006 8880 – https://www.mosmanrowers.com.au/ \nCOST:  Individuals to pay for themselves on the day \nRSVP TO: Lou-anne Folder at singlessundaybrunch@gmail.com by 3 July 2022 \nNB: If you RSVP & then change your mind\, it is imperative that you contact Lou-anne\, as her credit card will be charged $10 per head for ‘no shows’. Similarly\, you must RSVP if you wish to come; you cannot just turn up on the day. \nTRANSPORT:   \nFerry:   Catch a ferry from Circular Quay Wharf 4 to Mosman Bay Wharf\, then it’s a 5 minute walk to the left\, around the top of the bay – Mosman Rowers Restaurant is virtually opposite Mosman Bay Wharf. Alternatively\, you can alight at the prior ferry stop\, ie\, Old Cremorne Wharf\, and it’s approximately a 10-minute walk to the right along the edge of the bay via Bromley Ave. \nCar:  Parking is generally available. SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Visit to Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Guided Tour: Ken Done Liveable Art and Design
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a visit to The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre\, a cultural facility of the Liverpool City Council on the banks of the Georges River. \nBuilt in 1951 by the NSW Electricity Commission\, the Casula Powerhouse was erected to supplement electricity production during Winter and power shortages. This exhibition brings together a large collection of Done designed clothing\, accessories\, stationery and homewares for a public exhibition.
