SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Pittwater Artists
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]In June\, join us for a SWIC Art & Culture event with a difference. \nWe have organised visits to the home studios of some of the Pittwater Artists who are participating in the 2017 Pittwater Artist Trail. \nOur first stop at 11.00am will be the studio of Penel Bigg at Elanora Heights. \nGlass-glowing colours\, fluid forms\, beautiful beads\, molten magic. Penel melts rods of glass in the flame of a large burner and then uses heat and gravity and a few special tools to create all manner of lovely things. From beads that will be made up into gorgeous jewellery\, to intricately patterned perfume bottles to fantastical creatures\, every day in the studio is an adventure. \nOur second stop \nWe will then head to Mona Vale for lunch and a visit to another studio in Mona Vale village that specialises in homewares (to be confirmed). \nOur third stop (after 1.30 pm) will be the studio of Pittwater artist\, Vicki Ratcliff \, at Mona Vale. \nVick’s works reflect her love for the abundant natural beauty of Sydney’s Northern Beaches. She is inspired by the illuminating morning light and the magical play of light on water that allows us to see reflections of the world above or glimpse into the depths of what lies beneath. \nDATE: Tuesday 20 June 2016 \nTIME: 10.00am – 4.00pm (approximately) \nVENUES: The Artists’ Studios \nCOST: No Cost \nRSVP:  Alison Ross at arross@bigpond.net.au Mobile: 0405 541 921 \nFull details of addresses of studios and times of visits will be emailed after 13 June. \nRSVP BY – as soon as possible before 6 June. SUMMARY:Movie Group - 27 June 2017
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Hi ladies! Time for a movie! \nFor those of you new to Movie Group\, Jill Surgeon and I select the morning movies that are available for the 4th Tuesday of each month. The theatre advertises them about a week before so expect an email from us at that time. We meet prior to the movie times in the courtyard or the lobby of the Dendy Theatre\, Opera Quay. You select the movie you are interested in and buy your ticket – usually there is more than one person interested in each movie. \nAfter the movie\, we walk to City Extra for lunch or a coffee. Tip: they have excellent chips and yummy pancakes. \nThe movies vary in start and end times so we don’t all wait for each other at the theatre.  When your movie ends\, just head over to City Extra and we’ll see you there. \nThis week ‘Viceroy’s House’ starts at 10:15. If you go to this one\, there may be a wait until the rest of the group arrives for lunch. Usually the movie times are closer together. No need to RSVP – just join the fun. \nI will try to remember my name tag – look up my picture on the SWIC website so you recognize me! And please remember to wear your name tag. It is very helpful especially for our new members. Thank you. \nAnn Wilson \nLocation: \nDendy Opera Quay Theatre is amongst the shops on the walk to the Opera House at Circular Quay. \nCity Extra is along the wharf across from where all the ferries come in. There usually is plenty of setting upstairs for our group and we still overlook the wharf. If you are the first to get there\, please ask to be seated upstairs and to expect a group of 15-20. \nJUNE 27 MOVIES \n10:15 Viceroy’s House \nIn 1947\, Lord Mountbatten assumes the post of last Viceroy\, charged with handing India back to its people\, living upstairs at the house which was the home of British rulers\, whilst 500 Hindu\, Muslim and Sikh servants lived downstairs. \n11:00 My Cousin Rachel \nA young Englishman plots revenge against his mysterious\, beautiful cousin\, believing that she murdered his guardian. But his feelings become complicated as he finds himself falling under the beguiling spell of her charms. \n11:00 The Promise \nSet during the last days of the Ottoman Empire\, The Promise follows a love triangle between Michael\, a brilliant medical student\, the beautiful and sophisticated artist Ana\, and Chris – a renowned American journalist based in Paris. \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Art & Culture - 'Another Perspective With Paper'
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join us at the Grace Cossington Smith Gallery in Wahroonga to view the exhibition ‘Another Perspective with Paper’\, where we will see the inventive ways 11 artists have used paper to create very different and diverse works of art. \n“Paper is fragile and strong\, absorbent and rigid\, flat and bulky\, pliable and solid\, smooth and rough…and venerable to decay. Paper has been considered second best to other art materials\, consequently there is a sense of freedom for an artist to experiment without worry of preciousness. Whether as a responsive and characterful surface to interact with or as a material to sculpt\, paper responds readily to artists’ ideas and transformations.” \nThis exhibition includes work hung\, projected\, sculpted and encased. \nDATE: Tuesday 18 July 2017 \nTIME: 11.00am – 12.15 pm.
