SUMMARY:Short Walk - The Rocks
DESCRIPTION:Walking around The Rocks we will spare a thought or two for the early European  Settlers who landed on the foreshores of Sydney Cove.  It was all so Topsy Turvy for them: the sun went backwards\, North was South and South was North\, even the sky looked different. It nearly went bottoms up as there was a shortage of food and no Gorden Ramsey or Jamie Oliver in sight and they didn’t think to ask the locals about local produce!  Luckily  they had that great and wise man Arthur Phillip who decreed that everybody from Top Ponce to Lower Bogan would get the same rations and so saved the day. Now we can celebrate those distant relatives whom we dared not mention for so many years. \nWe will meet at Wynyard Station and walk through to Gloucester St\,  Cumberland St and then to the Argyle Cut\, past the Garrison Church and up to Observatory Hill. There are a few wide sandstone steps opposite the Garrison Church but it is possible to walk up the street to Observatory Hill. There are streets that slope slightly but there are benches around the area on which to rest. Then we will continue on around the hill\, through the Rocks area\, then around under the Bridge and down George St. A tea break at The Tea Cosy Cafe is planned. \nDATE: Wednesday 18 April 2018 \nTIME: 10.00am-12.00pm \nVENUE: The Tea Cosy Cafe \nCOST: Refreshments at own expense \nRSVP TO: Maureen Trost-Black at trostblack@hotmail.com or 0406 362 388 \nRSVP BY: Sunday 15 April 2018 \nTRANSPORT: Trains and buses to Wynyard Station

SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – Sphinx to Gibberagong\, Cowan and Cockle Creek
DESCRIPTION:This circuit will be one of our most challenging walks (12 km) and will take between 4-4.5 hours to complete. A significant amount of our walk will follow Cowan (salt water) and Cockle Creek (fresh water). Hiking boots are a necessity for this walk. \nSue and I completed the walk in 4.5 hours on Tues 17/4/18. It is a really beautiful\, worthwhile\, albeit long walk. The challenging aspect of this particular walk is that the steps frequently are quite deep. Both Sue and I used TREKKING POLES\, which we found were very beneficial both to prevent sausage fingers and to lever/ steady ourselves. I strongly recommend investing in a pair. Hiking boots are a requirement as there can be quite a lot of foliage on the ground.  The walk is on a par with the Mount Kuring- gai  National Park walk we did 2017. The good news is that we do not have the massive ascent at the completion of the walk. \nDATE: Tuesday 1 May 2018 \nTIME: TBA \nRSVP TO: Jenny Goode goodejenny@msn.com or \nSue Gunter susan.gunter@btinternt.com \nRSVP BY: Friday 27 April 2017

SUMMARY:Go Saturday - Visit to the Justice & Police Museum
DESCRIPTION:For the first ‘Go Saturday’ activity\, we will visit the Justice & Police Museum\, where we will step into the dark side of Sydney’s past with a visit to the Water Police station and courts that once made up one of the city’s busiest legal hubs. With its 1890s holding cells\, offices\, charge room and courts\, the museum draws you into a world of crime\, punishment and policing\, from bushrangers\, sly grog and razor gangs to forensics. A vast archive of crime scene photography and mug shots reveal more than a century of underworld Sydney. \nDATE: Saturday 26 May 2018 \nTIME: 2.00pm-4.00pm\, followed by optional refreshment time. \nVENUE: Justice & Police Museum\, Corner Albert and Phillip Streets\, Circular Quay \nCOST: Adults $12 entry\, Concession $8 entry \nPAYMENT: Payable on the day at the venue \nRSVP TO: Sian Ware on 0412 937 485 or sianware1@gmail.com \nRSVP BY: Thursday 24 May 2018 \nTRANSPORT: Make your own way there.
