DESCRIPTION:Enjoy something a little different in July and join Art & Culture for a visit to the Hazelhurst Gallery and Arts Centre for a tour of the gallery’s current exhibition that colourfully charts the work of Marion Hall Best\, whose interior decorating style vibrated with colour through her signature glazed painted finishes on walls and ceilings. On display is original furniture\, fabrics\, furnishings and fashion over the four decades from the mid-1930s. Described as ‘electrifying\, vital and avant-garde’\, Best’s interior decorating schemes were unashamedly modern at a time when other interior designers preferred a subdued palette and period furniture. Best was inspired by the modernist movement and colour theory of artists of the interwar years. We will emerge at Nielsen Park\, take a detour round Vaucluse Point\, and then follow the suburban streets to Watsons Bay\, crossing the bridge at Parsley Bay en route. DESCRIPTION:SWIC is delighted to offer members the opportunity to take an Art Class with renowned Sydney artist and teacher Vicki Ratcliff. Vicki was recently awarded Winner of the Best in Show at the Australian Society of Miniature Art 2018 National Awards. \nLast year SWIC members were fortunate to visit Vicki’s studio (while on the Pittwater Artists’ trail) where we saw some of her beautiful paintings. In her role as a teacher she demonstrated to us some clever techniques to accomplish great effects with watercolours. Many of us then decided we would love to attend one of her classes. DESCRIPTION:Important Notice Jenny and Sue are both away for this walk and Elizabeth Gordon has kindly agreed to lead it. \nThe Meadowbank to Parramatta Walk commences at Meadowbank Ferry Wharf\, and follows the northern side of the Parramatta River passing through a number of parks and reserves\, under Silverwater Bridge and on to Rydalmere (John Street) Wharf. The route continues below the former Female Orphan School\, now part of the University of Western Sydney\, before crossing over the bridge at James Ruse Drive and then heading west to Parramatta Wharf\, with an optional further walk to Government House. 10/12km. It is an easy\, flat walk mostly along shared cycle/pathways with no steps or uneven surfaces.
