SUMMARY:Monthly Activity - Botanical Enigma: The Calyx

Of further interest – the Calyx presents the most devious plants in the plant world. \nThe Calyx will re-open on 1 October with a new display – ‘Plants with Bite’ – and anyone who knows this place will know what a show they put on. If you haven’t been before\, you are in for a real treat. There is a café where we can have lunch or coffee. \nDATE: Tuesday 16 October 2018 \nTIME: 10.00am – 12noon \nVENUE: Meet at The Customs House at Circular Quay at 9.50am and walk up to the gardens – or meet at the entrance to the Calyx \nCOST: A gold coin donation at the Calyx. SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Visit to the Allens Collection (WAIT LIST)
DESCRIPTION:As our final event for 2018 we are excited to offer our Art & Culture enthusiasts the opportunity to visit The Allens Collection. \nThe works in the Allens’ Collection illustrate that the ‘art of painting and aesthetic concerns are still fundamental to artistic expression’. The Collection dates from the mid 1970s\, when Allens Law Firm moved into the offices of the then new MLC Building. What began as a way of ‘enlivening the office environment’ has grown to become a significant survey of painting over the following decades. The collection now has over a thousand works hanging in their offices. Not only do the art works create a vibrant work place but they also demonstrate an enduring commitment to young emerging Australian artists.  Allens have sought to collect a range of unique and challenging artworks from Australian artists. \nWe encourage you to RSVP early as places are limited. \nMaria Poulos\, the Curator of the Allens Collection\, will be our guide. We extend our sincere thanks to Allens and to Maria for their hospitality. \nDATE: Tuesday 20 November 2018 \nTIME: 11.00am – 12.30pm approximately. Light refreshments will be served during the event \nMeeting place: To be advised \nVENUE: Deutsche Bank Place – Level 28 126 Phillip Street (Corner Hunter & Phillip Streets) Sydney CBD \nCOST: $25.00 to a charity nominated by Allens \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: Pay on the day. SUMMARY:November Monthly Activity - Tour of the Coal Loader\, Waverton
DESCRIPTION:The Coal Loader\, on the western side of Waverton peninsula\, is an interesting part of Sydney’s history in a spectacular setting overlooking the Harbour. \nA former industrial site that operated from the early 1920s to the early 1990s\, some remnants from The Coal Loader still exist\, including  four impressive carved tunnels used as rail lines to transport coal. One of these tunnels is available to walk through and the others are home to hundreds of local bats. An old wharf where coal was loaded still stands. You can’t walk along it\, but it’s a great view from the shore. \nThe local North Sydney Council has developed The Coal Loader Centre for Sustainability\, with spaces for recreation and community allotment gardens. Well laid out information boards give the history of the site and there is a nice cafe for refreshments. \nDATE: Thursday 22 November 2018 \nTIME: 10.30am-12.00pm \nVENUE: 2 Balls Head Drive\, Waverton 2060 \nCOST: Entry to the Coal Loader  is free \nYou can also enjoy a coffee or lunch at the Coal Loader Café (at own expense) \nTRANSPORT: Limited street parking. SUMMARY:Ladies Night Out - The Oaks in Neutral Bay
DESCRIPTION:The Oaks is one of Sydney’s most iconic hotels – a local institution that’s been around since 1885 in the heart of Neutral Bay. The Oaks offers guests a series of spaces for relaxing\, dining and socialising. Enjoy a range of craft beers\, wines and classic cocktails in the opulent surrounds of the nineteen thirty six bar\, or the upstairs Cue & Cushion bar. Or linger with friends over the tempting menu at the magnificent Bar & Grill\, a prominent player in Neutral Bay restaurants. \nThe Oaks’ menu is packed with pub favourites\, finished with contemporary flair. Your best option though\, is to indulge in one of the hotel’s famous steaks. Otherwise just kick back under their famous oak tree – and drink up the lively atmosphere. \nThis will be our last Ladies Night Out for 2018. I have booked an area for our get together on 28 November. Since this is close to Christmas The Oaks will need the numbers for confirmation much in advance.
