DESCRIPTION:The Garvan Institute of Medical Research is an Australian biomedical research institute specialising in genetic and molecular technologies. You may remember their fascinating presentation at the SWIC Christmas luncheon in December 2018. \nIn 2014 Garvan became one of only three organisations in the world with the next generation of genome sequencing giving the ability to predict\, prevent and treat disease. Founded in 1963\, Garvan’s research is focused on the major diseases that affect today’s society: cancer\, diabetes\, osteoporosis and Parkinson’s disease\, as well as eating disorders\, autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. DESCRIPTION:This is one of Sydney’s best walks and a Challenging Walk favourite. We will start at Cremorne Point and follow the coastline around to Mosman\, past Sirius Cove and Taronga Zoo\, and then Bradley’s Head. We will then follow the path through to Chowder Bay and then up to Georges Heights to take in the glorious views back to the city and across to South Head. We will then drop down to the delightful beachside suburb of Balmoral\, where those who wish to can stay for lunch.
