Beware as Oxford St renumbers in each suburb\, so walk past 19 Oxford St\, Darlinghurst! \nBy Bus: From the city you can take the following bus routes which all stop opposite the store: 333\, 380\, 440\, or the Metrobus M40. \nBy Car: Parking\nSt Vincent’s Hospital Public Car Park\, Victoria St. Flat rate AUD 11 after 4pm\n \nAbout the book: \n”In 1940\, eighteen-year old Juliet Armstrong is reluctantly recruited into the world of espionage. Sent to an obscure department of MI5 tasked with monitoring the comings and goings of British Fascist sympathizers\, she discovers the work to be by turns both tedious and terrifying. But after the war has ended\, she presumes the events of those years have been relegated to the past for ever. \nTen years later\, now a producer at the BBC\, Juliet is unexpectedly confronted by figures from her past. A different war is being fought now\, on a different battleground\, but Juliet finds herself once more under threat. A bill of reckoning is due\, and she finally begins to realize that there is no action without consequence. \nTranscription is a work of rare depth and texture\, a bravura modern novel of extraordinary power\, wit and empathy. It is a triumphant work of fiction from one of this country’s most exceptional writers.” \nAbout the venue: \nAside from abundant inspiration for our book list it has a lovely wine bar and cafe on the first floor which is where we will meet.  There is reasonably priced parking nearby as well as plenty of buses that stop just outside. \nMore at:  http://berkelouw.com.au/stores/paddington \nBooks for upcoming meetings: \nWe are currently voting for our April\, May and June books.  Votes close 22 March and the Q2 reading list will subsequently be posted on the SWIC website.  If you would like to vote and do not have the list\, please contact Caroline to get added to our email distribution list. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Theatre Group - "The Miser"
DESCRIPTION:First performed in 1668\, The Miser is the well-known satire by French playwright Molière\, known for other classics such as Tartuffe and The Misanthrope. \nIn this performance\, starring John Bell\, the Founder of Bell Shakespeare\, The Miser is directed by Peter Evans and is based on a new contemporary version of Molière’s play written by Justin Fleming. \nIt is a play about family dynamics and greed. It is about the power of money – and those who are seduced by it. In the world of The Miser\, passion and penny-pinching go head to head in a ribald comedy of manners. Wealthy skinflint\, Harpagon is so cheap he’d rather bury his money in the backyard and steal oats from his horse before seeing a dollar spent. This is a man who loves nothing more than his beloved cash – not even his own children. As Peter Evans says\, “This is a delightful farce about a tight-arse lacking in class.” \nDATE: Tuesday 2 April 2019 \nTIME: 6.30pm. The show runs for approximately 2 hours 35 minutes\, with one interval \nVENUE: The Playhouse\, Sydney Opera House \nTICKETS: Back row tickets – $55\, middle row – $75\, front row – $95 + booking fee. This is exactly what we will be having when we go in May to the cosy and casual Eiju Fusion Japanese Dining\, located in Pyrmont. Kawara Soba is a regional dish from Japan invented by a chef in 1961 when he heard war stories of how soldiers cooked meats and wild herbs on hot tile roof. Eiju’s owner Chef Hideki Okazaki does not usually offer a set menu for lunch but has agreed to do a 4 course set menu for us Ladies Who Lunch. Don’t forget to dip your noodles in the dipping sauce before you eat them! \nSpace is absolutely limited as Eiju only has 13 Kawara tiles. \nCaveat: There may be a waiting time of up to 20 minutes between the first and last serve of the Kawara Soba because of the size of the kitchen and how the dish is prepared.
