SUMMARY:Ladies Who Lunch - Eiju Fusion Japanese Dining (NOW FULL - WAITLIST ONLY)
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to try Green Tea Soba Noodles with Wagyu Beef served on a hot Japanese roof tile? This is exactly what we will be having when we go in May to the cosy and casual Eiju Fusion Japanese Dining\, located in Pyrmont. Kawara Soba is a regional dish from Japan invented by a chef in 1961 when he heard war stories of how soldiers cooked meats and wild herbs on hot tile roof. Eiju’s owner Chef Hideki Okazaki does not usually offer a set menu for lunch but has agreed to do a 4 course set menu for us Ladies Who Lunch. Don’t forget to dip your noodles in the dipping sauce before you eat them! \nSpace is absolutely limited as Eiju only has 13 Kawara tiles. \nCaveat: There may be a waiting time of up to 20 minutes between the first and last serve of the Kawara Soba because of the size of the kitchen and how the dish is prepared. So bring your patience and humour with you. \nStay tuned for the June lunch: Encasa Spanish Restaurant in the CBD \nDATE: 1 May 2019 \nTIME: 12:00noon – 2:00pm \nVENUE: Eiju Fusion Japanese Dining\, 196 Harris St\, Pyrmont\, NSW 2009 \nCOST: $50.00 for a 4 course set menu. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – 'Folk' at the Ensemble Theatre
DESCRIPTION:This month Theatre Group is going a little more light-hearted\, with the Australian Premiere of Tom Wells’ funny and moving play\, Folk\, which brings together a classic trio of misfits with heart\, humour and song. \nSister Winnie is no ordinary nun. She’s feisty\, irreverent and has a soft spot for a pint of Guinness. Her front room is a haven for socially awkward Stephen\, who shares her passion for folk music. Their world is suddenly shattered – literally – when wayward and rebellious Kayleigh throws a brick through the window\, bringing chaos into their lives. Each of them is keeping a secret and as confidences are shared\, ever-optimistic Winnie concocts a harebrained scheme to help her friends unleash their creative talent on the world. \nThe play features Libby Asciak\, Gerard Carroll and Genevieve Lemon. \n★★★★ “Tom Wells writes plays of great heart… Folk\, is no different. It’s as warm as an electric blanket on a nippy night… a play of empathy\, generosity and hope. Poignant but not sentimental… it’s a celebration of the different forms that love can take.” The Stage UK \nDATE: Thursday 16 May 2019 \nTIME: 8.15 pm (approximately 90 minutes\, no interval) \nVENUE: Ensemble Theatre\, 78 McDougall St\, Kirribilli\, NSW 2061 \nTICKETS: Tickets are $75 for seniors and $78 for adults. To buy your tickets visit https://boxoffice.ensemble.com.au/ \nPRE-THEATRE DINNER: 7.00 pm\, Kirribilli Woodfire Kitchen (Italian)\, Shop 2\, 27 Broughton St\, Kirribilli (a two-minute/600m walk via Broughton St and McDougall St to the theatre) \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au by Monday 6 May 2019\, indicating whether you want to join us for the pre-theatre dinner or not \n************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead \n In June you can see the Australian Premiere of Prima Facie by Suzy Miller\, a one-woman show starring Sheridan Harbridge as Tessa – a criminal lawyer at the top of her game. \nWe will book for Tuesday 18 June 2019\, 7.00pm\, SBW Stables Theatre (Griffin)\, 10 Nimrod Street\, Kings Cross\, NSW 2011. Tickets: $62 Full\, $52 Concession \nFull details in the Events Calendar of the website shortly

SUMMARY:Tour of a Recycling Centre (WAITLIST)
DESCRIPTION:We have something different to offer members for the May monthly activity. \nIn 2016-2017 Australia generated an estimated 67 million tonnes (Mt) of waste including 14.2 Mt of organics and 5.6 Mt of paper and cardboard. This is the equivalent of 2.7 tonnes per capita per year. However\, we recycled 60 per cent of the total waste we produced. For most of us\, recycling means we put our waste in the yellow-top bin and it is taken to a recycling facility and turned back into its basic material — plastic\, glass\, aluminium\, or paper. \nBut it turns out recycling is not so simple\, and there are major problems in the Australian industry. A Four Corners investigation in 2017 found significant amounts of recyclable material is being dumped in landfill. Find out what happens to your recyclables after collection. This guided tour will answer your questions and show you what happens to your recycling once it has been picked up\, and what can be diverted from landfill. \nNOTE: Participants are to wear closed shoes\, long-sleeved shirts\, and PPE provided by Council (Hi-Vis Vests and Safety glasses). \nDATE: Thursday 23 May 2019 \nTIME: 11.30 am – 12.30 pm \nVENUE: Randwick Recycling Centre\, 72 Perry Street\, Matraville NSW 2036 \nCOST: Free \nRSVP TO: Kesty Pringgoharjono at activity.swicsydney@gmail.com \nRSVP BY: 15 May 2019 – First come-first served basis due to limited space \nTRANSPORT: \n\nCar : limited street parking available\nBuses: No. 392\, 515\, 317\, 307\n\nReference only \nhttps://www.environment.gov.au/system/files/resources/7381c1de-31d0-429b-912c-91a6dbc83af7/files/national-waste-report-2018.pdf \nhttps://www.smh.com.au/business/consumer-affairs/food-waste-averages-3800-per-household-yet-food-insecurity-at-crisis-point-20170602-gwj1eg.html \nhttps://www.smh.com.au/environment/sustainability/nsw-waste-crisis-landfill-levy-gains-20190104-p50pp3.html \nhttps://www.smh.com.au/environment/sustainability/nsw-waste-crisis-landfill-levy-gains-20190104-p50pp3.html
