Described as ‘wildly different’\, this is an extraordinary exhibition revealing three centuries of folklore and fantasy in Japanese art. Come face to face with these mysterious creatures in an immersive environment featuring large-scale installations and classic Japanese cinema and animation\, alongside miniature carvings\, humorous paintings and the vibrant ukiyo-e woodblock prints that define the tradition of the supernatural in Japanese art. \nCentred on a monumental installation of painting and sculpture by Takashi Murakami\, the exhibition features some of the greatest Japanese artists of the past. \nDATE: Tuesday 19 November 2019 \nTIME: 9.30am – 10.30am \nMeet outside the main door of the Art Gallery no later than 9.20 am for a 9.30am tour. \nVENUE: Art Gallery of NSW\, Art Gallery Rd\, Sydney NSW 2000 \nCOST: Adult $30 /Adult (Senior) Concession $25 \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: Pay on the day \nPlease have the correct money in an envelope clearly labelled with your name and either ADULT/SENIOR \nRSVP TO:  Kay Nicholas  at kay.k.nicholas@gmail.com or on 0438 469 044 \nRSVP BY: Friday 8 November 2019 \nTRANSPORT:  Public transport is recommended or by car – park in The Domain Car Park\, St Mary’s Road (Wilson Car Park) \nThe Art Gallery is approximately a 5 minute walk from Macquarie Street\, across the Domain\, or from Hyde Park. \n

SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'Packer & Sons' by Tommy Murphy
DESCRIPTION:This month we will be seeing Tommy Murphy’s production of Packer & Sons\, directed by Eamon Flack\, at Belvoir St Theatre. \nIn brief – a battler at a Tasmanian racecourse finds ten shillings in the dirt. He puts it on a 12-1 long shot\, and when it romps home he’s off to the mainland\, and the Packer Dynasty is born. Fathers and sons across generations\, through war\, the Depression\, technological change. The family myth grows with the influence\, and each son feels the weight of time\, of power. But now it’s the 21st century. Newspapers\, magazines\, broadcast TV – what are they? Now it’s time for entertainment through your phone. And back to laying bets on long shots. \nA deeply researched\, muscular work from Tommy Murphy\, Packer & Sons puts on stage the men who have loomed large over Sydney for nearly 100 years. Plotted around the transitions of power from father to son over four generations\, this is a play about power and what it does to the men who wield it. \nSupported by Australian Writers’ Guild’s David Williamson Prize \nDATE: Thursday 28 November 2019 \nTIME: 7.30pm – 10.00pm \nVENUE: Upstairs Theatre\, Belvoir St Theatre\, 25 Belvoir Street\, Surry Hills NSW 2010 \nTICKETS: Adults $75-80\, Seniors $65-70 \nWe have purchased our Senior tickets (weekday side) for $65 each in Row E. \nPurchase your tickets at belvoir.com.au or ring the box office on 9699 3444. \n(NOTE: Transaction fees may apply) \nPRE-PERFORMANCE (Optional): You are welcome to join Theatre Group Convenors Judith Nguyen and Liz Polednik at Belvoir St Theatre prior to the performance\, where you can buy snacks and drinks at the bar. \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au by Thursday 21 November 2019 \n************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Last play for the year \n Wednesday 11 December – The Odd Couple by Neil Simon (Ensemble)

SUMMARY:Theatre Group - ‘The Odd Couple’ by Neil Simon
DESCRIPTION:For our final Theatre group outing this year we will be seeing The Odd Couple at the Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli. Written by Neil Simon and directed by Mark Kilmurry. \nComedy masters Darren Gilshenan and Steve Rodgers are the definitive odd couple in Simon’s hilarious Tony Award winning play of divorce\, friendship and (mis)understanding. \nOscar likes cards. Sports. Eating leftovers. \nFelix likes clean air. Polished surfaces. Cooking. \nWhen recently divorced Oscar invites getting-divorced Felix to share his New York apartment\, it might not improve their friendship. In fact\, it might just ruin it. Will Felix survive late nights\, TV dinners and yesterday’s towels? And will Oscar survive drink coasters\, clean ashtrays and the recipe for London broil? And who threw that spaghetti at the wall? \nDATE: Wednesday 11 December 2019 \nTIME: 7.30pm (2 hrs 20 mins including interval) \nVENUE: Ensemble Theatre\, 78 McDougall St\, Kirribilli NSW 2061 \nTICKETS: Adults $78\, Seniors $75\nWe have purchased our Senior tickets for $75 each in Row 46.Purchase your ticket at the Box Office on 8918 3400 or on the website at https://boxoffice.ensemble.com.au/ \n(NOTE: Transaction fees may apply – $6 website and phone; $0 Box Office counter) \nPRE-PERFORMANCE (Optional): You are welcome to join Theatre Group Convenors Judith Nguyen and Liz Polednik for a light dinner at Bayly’s Bistro (within the theatre complex) at 6.00pm. \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au by Wednesday 4 December 2019\, stating whether you wish to join us for dinner. We will need to book a table.
