SUMMARY:Easy Walk - The Goods Line to Darling Harbour
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]We started the year with a bush walk\, then a coastal walk\, and now we offer a city walk. \nThe Goods Line is a partly elevated urban walkway from Sydney Central Station to Darling Harbour that follows the route of the once bustling but long neglected railway line. After completion of a $15 million transformation\, The Goods Line re-opened to the public on Sunday 30 August 2015 as a walkway\, linear park and open space. It passes by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and you can see the new Frank Gehry designed Business School (resembling a brown paper bag). \nAs it is the school holidays\, you are welcome to bring your children on this walk. It is an easy walk and can easily be combined with a day out in Darling Harbour or even just walk the first 1 km along The Goods Line and then go to the DC Comics Lego exhibition at the Powerhouse Museum which we pass. \nDate: Wednesday 20 April 2016 \nTime: 10.30am -1.00pm \nVenue: 4 km level and paved from Central Station via The Goods Line in Ultimo\, to Pyrmont and Darling Harbour \nCost: Lunch at own cost\, venue to be advised \nRSVP: swic.easywalk@gmail.com by Sunday 16 April 2016 \nTransport: Further details will be provided to those who reply \nConvenors: Gerrie Creemer 0487 477 082 and Catherine Marsh 0406 423304 \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Special Activity - Tour of Kensington Street Precinct - WAIT LIST
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]On Thursday 26 May 2016 we will tour Sydney’s exciting new Kensington Street Precinct with Nicky Ginsberg\, Creative Director; enjoy Lunch in Spice Alley; and ‘Meet the Concierge’ at The Old Clare Hotel. \nJoin Nicky Ginsberg on a tour of the transformed and adaptively revitalised Kensington Street precinct. Forming the eastern boundary of the $2 billion Central Park urban village on Broadway\, Kensington Street has been reborn as Sydney’s latest laneway – a new home for restaurants\, cafes\, small bars\, markets\, artists\, galleries\, innovative retailers\, and creative types\, combining heritage architecture with bold contemporary ideas. Saving the terraces was critical\, having become isolated by surrounding developments. Many original features\, including joinery and staircases remain. Step inside and you’ll be transported to the early settler days of Sydney\, when houses\, rum stores and stables sat side by side. Other key heritage elements have been saved including the former Carlton and United Brewery offices and warehouses. \nAt the conclusion of the tour enjoy a special SWIC lunch in Spice Alley and then ‘Meet the Concierge’ at the Old Clare Hotel for a tour of Sydney’s newest boutique hotel. In creating the new ’Old Clare’\, Tonkin Zulaikha Greer Architects wanted to tap into Sydney’s history by combing a Victorian brewery headquarters with an Art Deco hotel to form the Old Clare Hotel. \nPlease note that this activity is limited to 20 places  \nDATE: 26 May 2016 \nTIME: 11.30 am – 2.00pm \nVENUE: 1 Kensington St\, Chippendale NSW 2008 \nMeet at the main Entrance of The Old Clare Hotel \nCOST: $25.00 which includes a taste of Asia light lunch. \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: \nPayment Option 1: By Credit Card through the Cart at the bottom of the page \nPayment Option 2: Online (direct deposit) into the SWIC bank account \nAccount Name: SWIC Inc. \nBSB No: 112-879 \nAccount No: 431-019-281 \nDescription: Kensington + your initial and surname \nRSVP TO: Kay Nicholas at Kay.k.nicholas@gmail.com OR 0438 469 044 \nRSVP BY: 16 May 2016 \nTRANSPORT: \nPublic Transport – a 10 minute walk along George Street from Central Station or bus along George Street. As the eldest sisters are married off\, the younger ones bond together to avoid the same fate. The fierce love between them empowers them to rebel and chase a future where they can determine their own lives in Deniz Gamze Ergüven’s debut\, a powerful portrait of female empowerment. \nTHE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY \nStarring Jeremy Irons\, Dev Patel\, Stephen Fry.  Directed by Matt Brown.  Classification: PG (Mild themes)\, 108 mins. \nThe astonishing true story of Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyenga\, born into poverty in India before gaining entry to Cambridge University\, where he changed the face of modern mathematics. \n  \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

SUMMARY:Movie Group
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]The films for Tuesday 26 July 2016 at the Dendy Opera Quays cinema are at the following times: \n10.00am – Goldstone \n10.00am – Love and Friendship \n10.00am – Sing Street \nTIME: 10.00am -12noon (movie) and 12noon -2.00pm (lunch) \nCOST: Approx. $15 (seniors discount available)\, plus lunch. We usually go for a light lunch or drink at the ECQ Bar in the Pullman Quay hotel (3nd floor\, entrance from the quay)\, with its lovely view of the harbour \nPAYMENT: Buy your own ticket at the box office on the day. Lunch at own expense. \nRSVP BY: Monday at the latest for cinema and lunch to Jill Surgeon at  jsurgeon@internode.on.net \nTRANSPORT: Train\, bus or ferry to Circular Quay and 5 minute walk \nTHE FILMS: \nGOLDSTONE \nStarring David Wenham\, Alex Russell\, Jacki Weaver. \nDirected by Ivan Sen. \nClassification: M (Mature themes\, violence and coarse language )\, 110 mins. \nLanguage: English (subtitled). \nIndigenous Detective JAY SWAN arrives in the frontier mining town of “Goldstone” on a missing persons enquiry. \nWhat seems like a simple “light duties” investigation soon opens into a web of crime and corruption implicating the local Mayor\, Mining Boss and Aboriginal Land Council. \nLOVE & FRIENDSHIP \nRelease: 21 July 2016 \nStarring Kate Beckinsale\, Chloë Sevigny\, Xavier Samuel.\nDirected by Whit Stillman.\nClassification: PG.\nOfficial Site: http://loveandfriendshipmovie.com/ \nSet in the opulent drawing rooms of eighteenth-century English society\, Love & Friendship focuses on the machinations of a beautiful widow\, Lady Susan Vernon (Kate Beckinsale)\, who\, while waiting for social chatter about a personal indiscretion to pass\, takes up temporary residence at her in-laws’ estate. While there\, the intelligent\, flirtatious\, and amusingly egotistical Lady Vernon is determined to be a matchmaker for her daughter Frederica—and herself too\, naturally. She enlists the assistance of her old friend Alicia (Chloë Sevigny)\, but two particularly handsome suitors (Xavier Samuel and Tom Bennett) complicate her orchestrations. \nAdapting Jane Austen’s unpublished early novella Lady Susan\, Whit Stillman returns to the Sundance Film Festival (where his Metropolitan premiered in 1990) in top form with his latest comedy of manners. Kate Beckinsale excels in her role as the deliciously devious Lady Vernon and delivers each line with relish. With exquisite period detail and a script teeming with bon mots and witty dialogue\, Love & Friendship is a rare—and rarified—treat. \nSING STREET \nStarring Ferdia Walsh-Peelo\, Aidan Gillen\, Maria Doyle Kennedy.\nDirected by John Carney.\nClassification: M (Coarse language )\, 105 mins. \nSING STREET takes us back to 1980s Dublin seen through the eyes of a 14-year-old boy named Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who is looking for a break from a home strained by his parents’ relationship and money troubles\, while trying to adjust to his new inner-city public school where the kids are rough and the teachers are rougher. He finds a glimmer of hope in the mysterious\, über-cool and beautiful Raphina (Lucy Boynton)\, and with the aim of winning her heart he invites her to star in his band’s music videos. There’s only one problem: he’s not part of a band…yet. She agrees\, and now Conor must deliver what he’s promised – calling himself “Cosmo” and immersing himself in the vibrant rock music trends of the decade\, he forms a band with a few lads\, and the group pours their heart into writing lyrics and shooting videos. Inspired by writer/director John Carney’s (ONCE\, BEGIN AGAIN) life and love for music\, SING STREET shows us a world where music has the power to take us away from the turmoil of everyday life and transform us into something greater. \n  \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
