SUMMARY:Short Walk - The Rocks
DESCRIPTION:Walking around The Rocks we will spare a thought or two for the early European  Settlers who landed on the foreshores of Sydney Cove.  It was all so Topsy Turvy for them: the sun went backwards\, North was South and South was North\, even the sky looked different. It nearly went bottoms up as there was a shortage of food and no Gorden Ramsey or Jamie Oliver in sight and they didn’t think to ask the locals about local produce!  Luckily  they had that great and wise man Arthur Phillip who decreed that everybody from Top Ponce to Lower Bogan would get the same rations and so saved the day. Now we can celebrate those distant relatives whom we dared not mention for so many years. \nWe will meet at Wynyard Station and walk through to Gloucester St\,  Cumberland St and then to the Argyle Cut\, past the Garrison Church and up to Observatory Hill. There are a few wide sandstone steps opposite the Garrison Church but it is possible to walk up the street to Observatory Hill. There are streets that slope slightly but there are benches around the area on which to rest. Then we will continue on around the hill\, through the Rocks area\, then around under the Bridge and down George St. A tea break at The Tea Cosy Cafe is planned. \nDATE: Wednesday 18 April 2018 \nTIME: 10.00am-12.00pm \nVENUE: The Tea Cosy Cafe \nCOST: Refreshments at own expense \nRSVP TO: Maureen Trost-Black at trostblack@hotmail.com or 0406 362 388 \nRSVP BY: Sunday 15 April 2018 \nTRANSPORT: Trains and buses to Wynyard Station
