DESCRIPTION:Important Notice Jenny and Sue are both away for this walk and Elizabeth Gordon has kindly agreed to lead it. \nThe Meadowbank to Parramatta Walk commences at Meadowbank Ferry Wharf\, and follows the northern side of the Parramatta River passing through a number of parks and reserves\, under Silverwater Bridge and on to Rydalmere (John Street) Wharf. The route continues below the former Female Orphan School\, now part of the University of Western Sydney\, before crossing over the bridge at James Ruse Drive and then heading west to Parramatta Wharf\, with an optional further walk to Government House. 10/12km. It is an easy\, flat walk mostly along shared cycle/pathways with no steps or uneven surfaces. The buildings showcase some of Sydney’s oldest and best preserved examples of colonial sandstone architecture. The National Art School Gallery is situated in what was the “A” wing of the old Gaol. The original building c 1841 was completely refurbished in 2006 to serve its new role as the NAS Gallery. \nWe commence our visit with the lively historical ‘Old Darlinghurst Gaol Tour’ that sheds light on the fascinating history of the site.
