SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' - Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Oscar Wilde \nAdapted and directed by Kip Williams \nA breath-taking reimagining of an Oscar Wilde classic \nOscar Wilde’s century-old moral fable\, packed with witticisms\, is as devilishly wicked today as on its debut. \nSeeing himself in a dazzling new portrait\, an exquisite young man makes a Faustian wish for eternal youth. Dorian Gray throws himself into a life of wanton luxury\, drifting from the pampered salons of Victorian London to the darkest recesses of the capital\, and revelling in the splendour of his beauty which remains forever golden. Meanwhile\, the portrait – banished to an attic – becomes more and more grotesque. \nThis new interpretation of Wilde’s only novel is adapted and directed by Artistic Director Kip Williams. Collaborating once again with Eryn Jean Norvill (Suddenly Last Summer\, Romeo and Juliet)\, Williams’ re-imagining will see Norvill performing every role in the story in an audacious cascade of theatrical transformations. The inventive use of live video that made Suddenly Last Summer and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui so visually compelling will capture and amplify every move. \n“The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.”  Lord Henry \nContent – Adult themes\, drug use\, suicide\, theatrical haze\, herbal cigarettes \nDATE: Tuesday 3 May 2022 \nTIME: 6.30pm (approx. duration 2 hours\, no interval) \nVENUE: Roslyn Packer Theatre\, 22 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Seniors Act 1 Season Ticket $84\, Adult A Reserve $110\, B Reserve $102\, Seniors $102 \nNote: The Convenors have purchased seats B21 and B22 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.sydneytheatrecompany.com \nPOST-THEATRE SUPPER (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for a post-theatre supper at a restaurant in Walsh Bay. SUMMARY:Monthly Activity - Utzon and the Sydney Opera House Architectural Tour
DESCRIPTION:This month we are going to tour an architectural tour de force – the Sydney Opera House! \nOn 28 June 2007 the Sydney Opera House was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the World Heritage Convention\, placing it alongside the Taj Mahal\, the ancient Pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China as one of the most outstanding places on Earth. \nThis tour\, led by architect Eoghan Lewis\, will draw you into the amazing visionary world of the architect of the Sydney Opera House through the eyes of its creator\, Danish architect Jørn Utzon. \nDiscussing the sources of the young architect’s deepest inspiration\, his working methods and influences\, we will discover the development of Utzon’s ideas and their materialisation in the Sydney Opera House. \nThe political events that led to his undoing in 1966 will be discussed and we will be able to see Utzon’s own drawings and models to unpack his intended but ultimately unrealised designs for the interiors. \nDATE: Thursday 26 May 2022 \nTIME: 10.00am-12.30pm \nLimit of 30 people MAX \nMEET: 9:45am for 10:00am start at the Sydney Botanic Gardens Gate\, near the eastern edge of the Sydney Opera House platform. \nCOST: $35.00 \nRSVP TO: swic.activitymonthly@gmail.com with your name and mobile phone number and wait for confirmation of a place before paying \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: \nPayment Option 1 (Preferred):\nBy Credit Card through the Payments section of the website \nPayment Option 2: Online (direct deposit) into the SWIC bank account \nAccount Name: SWIC Inc. \nBSB No: 112-879 \nAccount No: 431-019-281 \nDescription: Monthly Activity + your initial and surname \nWhat Else? \nPlease arrive at the meeting point 10-15 minutes prior to tour departure. Depending on numbers they will hand out a wireless audio system. \nWhatever happens with regard to the weather\, we will walk! Bring a sun hat\, umbrella\, camera\, sketch book and so on. \nThe Guide \nThe tour will be led by architect Eoghan Lewis\, founder of Eoghan Lewis Architects (www.eoghanlewis.com.au) and the Sydney Architecture Walks (SAW). Eoghan has been studying and sharing the work of Utzon with professional groups and the public for the last 21 years through SAW. \nAbout SAW \n‘We are architects and we conduct tours of Sydney on foot and on bicycle. Each tour is a straightforward and jargon-free story-telling journey that explores ideas through architecture\, offering an interface between in-depth architectural knowledge and the wider design-conscious community. We want you to understand the how and why of the city whilst we explore and unpack Sydney’s most provocative and daring projects; works of contemporary architecture\, public art and landscape that inspire and delight but also projects that reveal something of Sydney’s grimy pulse. All our tours are led by architects.’
