SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – The First Leg of Bondi to Manly Walk – Bondi Beach to Watsons Bay
DESCRIPTION:At the end of 2018\, six city councils along with other agencies\, decided to create a coastal and harbour-side walking track between two famous beaches in Sydney\, Bondi Beach and Manly Beach. The result of this collaboration is the epic 80km Bondi to Manly Walk. The details can be found on www.bonditomanly.com or the B2M app. We will walk the Bondi to Manly Walk in seven stages together\, walking one stage at a time on the first Tuesday of the month from June to December. \nIn June\, we will do the first leg of Bondi to Manly Walk from Bondi Beach to Watsons Bay. The walk is approximately 13.4km with an elevation gain of 387m. The walk will take around 3-4 hours to complete. Starting at Bondi Beach\, we will walk up the coast along the South Head of Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Walking past Indigenous sites and other heritage and historical landmarks such as Macquarie Lighthouse and the Wreck of Dunbar. After passing Sydney’s infamous The Gap\, we’ll reach Hornby Lighthouse at the tip of South Head\, before looping around to Watsons Bay Wharf. (Excerpts from www.bonditomanly.com). There are many places where one can bail out if one wishes to shorten the walk. \nMore details will be sent to members who are participating closer to the event date. \nDATE:  Tuesday 6 June 2023 \nTIME: 9.30am at Bondi Junction Train Station \nVENUE:  Bondi Junction Train Station. \nRSVP TO: Sandy Tay\, Lining Kendall and Fritzi Casal at swic.challengingwalk@gmail.com \nRSVP BY: 1 June 2023

SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ at the Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Ensemble Theatre is delighted to bring to the stage Tennessee Williams’ gothic melodrama\, ‘Suddenly Last Summer’\, which is as relevant today as it was when written over 60 years ago. \nDirected by Shaun Rennie\, ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ is vibrant\, funny and beautiful\, and takes the audience into the poetic world of redemption and love\, shadowed by the dark secrets a family can hold. \nDeep amongst the monstrous flytraps and ferns in Sebastian’s garden\, tendrils of a sordid family secret are beginning to unfurl. \nSebastian Venable died mysteriously last summer\, and his mother Violet will do anything in her power to protect his memory – and her own reputation. SUMMARY:Monthly Activity : An architectural tour of Surry Hills
DESCRIPTION:Sydney Architectural Walks will be guiding us again after a very successful walk with them that we did last year in Chippendale. This walking tour will explore the back streets of Surry Hills\, plucking out some of the most interesting contemporary moments of architecture\, landscape and design including pools\, parks\, commercial and residential buildings\, small infill developments and radical re-workings of heritage buildings. The conversation will shift from individual projects to City of Sydney governance strategies\, state government ambitions for the area\, new ideas around public and affordable housing\, radical plans to re-zone the land above the railway tracks as well as the suburb of Surry Hills itself and how and why it has evolved as it has. \nDATE: Thursday 22 June \nTIME: 9:50am for 10am start \nFinish: 12 noon – Paramount Coffee Project at Paramount House Hotel.
