SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – The Fourth Leg of Bondi to Manly Walk – Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo Wharf
DESCRIPTION:At the end of 2018\, six city councils along with other agencies\, decided to create a coastal and harbour-side walking track between two famous beaches in Sydney\, Bondi Beach and Manly Beach. The result of this collaboration is the epic 80km Bondi to Manly Walk. The details can be found on www.bonditomanly.com or the B2M app. We will walk the Bondi to Manly Walk in seven stages together\, walking one stage at a time on the first Tuesday of the month from June to December. \nIn September\, we will do the fourth leg of Bondi to Manly Walk from Circular Quay to to Taronga Zoo Wharf. The walk is approximately 14.5km with an elevation gain of 282m. The walk will take around 3.5 hours to complete. \nStarting the day by exploring The Rocks and crossing the Harbour Bridge\, we will be able to see parts of where we have been and where we are going. From here\, we will explore parts of Kirribilli\, such as Admiralty House\, Kirribilli House and Sub Base Platypus\, before continuing through to Neutral Bay\, where May Gibbs’ Nutcote house is located. Continuing to Cremorne Point Reserve\, we will pass one of Sydney’s impressive seawater pools; MacCallum Pool. Robertson Lighthouse marks the end of Cremorne Point\, which boasts magnificent views of Sydney Harbour and is the perfect spot for a scenic picnic/lunch break. \nFollowing the trail\, we will find ourselves passing through Mosman Bay\, then arriving at Sirius Cove and\, finally\, at Taronga Zoo. (Excerpts from www.bonditomanly.com). \nMore details will be sent to members who are participating closer to the event date. \nDATE:  Tuesday 5 September 2023 \nTIME: 9.15am at Circular Quay Wharf 6 \nLUNCH: Please pack a lunch for this walk. \nRSVP TO:  Sandy\, Lining\, Fritzi and Sue at swic.challengingwalk@gmail.com \nRSVP BY: Friday 1 September 2023

SUMMARY:East Meets West Lunch – YX Mini Hotpot - Eastwood
DESCRIPTION:Have you tried Chinese hotpot before? If not\, come and join us for this fun experience at YX Mini Hotpot in Eastwood in September. Hotpot comes with many different styles and names and is one of the most favourite ways to eat a meal among Asians. Each country or even a region in a country has a different version of hotpot. \nTraditionally\, the hotpot refers to a big pot of steaming soup heated by charcoal where everyone cooks the raw ingredients in the same pot of soup. But things have changed in the modern days. At YX\, each of us will have an individual induction with a pot of soup of your choice from the menu then we will cook the shared raw ingredients (meat\, fish\, veggies\, mushrooms\, tofu…) in your own pot of soup. There will be a station where we prepare our own dipping sauce. \nThere is an option to meet at 11:00am for a stroll in the Chinese side of Eastwood before the lunch to browse or buy Asian groceries\, pastries\, fruits and veggies. Details will be sent to those we are interested later on. \nDATE: Thursday 7 September 2023 \nTIME: 12.00pm – 2.00pm \nVENUE: Shop 1B/14 Glen St\, Eastwood 2122 TEL: 0451 738 668 Website: https://www.yxgroup.com.au/en/home.html \nCOST: $69 (includes gratuity and service charges). This restaurant does not split bill. Please bring cash to pay the organisers (i.e. Pauline\, Sue or Sandy) for the drinks that you order. THIS WILL HELP THE ORGANISERS GREATLY. \nRSVP TO: Sandy Tay sgtay@yahoo.com \nPlease do not pay until you have received a confirmation email from Sandy. \nRSVP BY: Friday 1 September 2023 \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: \nPayment Option 1 (Preferred): By Credit Card through the Payments section of the website \nPayment Option 2: Online (direct deposit) into the SWIC bank account \nAccount Name: SWIC Inc. \nBSB No: 112-879 \nAccount No: 431-019-281 \nDescription: EMW + your initial and surname \nTRANSPORT:  YX Mini Hotpot is 500 meters from Eastwood Train Station via W Parade and Hillview Ln.

SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ at Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Oscar Wilde \nDirected by Sarah Giles \n Hilarious\, naughty and Wilde \nThe fabulous Helen Thomson (Death of a Salesman\, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis) is back in this outrageous\, entertaining and brilliantly camp new vision of one of theatre’s greatest comedies. \nOscar Wilde’s dazzling wit meets the lush and bracingly contemporary style of acclaimed director Sarah Giles. This production will see The Importance of Being Earnest’s skewering of Victorian London’s silliness and snobbery in what promises to be an unforgettable night of hilarity. \nAlgernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing are two best friends who are both living double lives. In the city they’re playboys with a libertine reputation\, but in the country they assume pious alter egos to get away from it all. Things get sticky when love enters the mix and the men have to keep track of who they’re pretending to be and when. Floating haughtily above it all is the withering Lady Bracknell – played by Thomson – Victorian London’s socialite extraordinaire and the gatekeeper of all things ‘high society’. \nThe gold standard of theatrical comedy\, The Importance of Being Earnest is a razor-sharp and endlessly relevant reminder of our tendency to get hung up on small trivialities while the important things in life pass us by. \nApprox. duration 2 hrs 20 mins (including interval) \nDATE: Thursday 14 September 2023 \nTIME: 7.30pm \nVENUE: Roslyn Packer Theatre\, 22 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Tickets are $111.00 (Seniors) \nJudith and Cherry have purchased seats B26 and B27 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.sydneytheatrecompany.com \nPRE-THEATRE DRINKS/SNACKS (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for pre-theatre drinks/small food or boards at The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf. SUMMARY:Special Event - The River Postman
DESCRIPTION:Join The Riverboat Postman as it delivers the mail on behalf of Australia Post to the isolated water-access-only settlements on the Hawkesbury River at Brooklyn. Easy access by rail and road make this the perfect day trip from Sydney or Newcastle and the Central Coast. Three hour cruise includes morning tea and lunch on board\, and all boats are fully licensed. \nOur ticket includes a three hour mail delivery cruise of the Hawkesbury. Boats depart at 10am every weekday (except Public Holidays). \nMorning tea is served on departure\, with percolated coffee\, hot tea\, and delicious home-made ANZAC biscuits – we would bet you haven’t had them like this before! \nLunch\, which is served around midday\, consists of a very Aussie Ploughman’s-style plate with shaved ham\, tasty cheese\, tomato\, zucchini\, carrot\, mixed lettuce\, pickled onions\, fresh Turkish Bread roll\, pickles\, fruit chutney\, butter & Italian dressing. \nWe can cater for the common dietary requirements (gluten free\, vegetarian etc)  – just let us know at the time of booking. \nAll our boats are fully licensed\, so you can enjoy a glass of wine or beer\, or a soft drink\, with your lunch. Water is always available at the bar. \nDATE: Wednesday September 27 2023 \nTIME: 10am – 1pm \nVENUE: Brooklyn Postie Wharf\, Dangar Rd \nBrooklyn\, NSW\, Australia 2083 \nCOST: Seniors $54\, Adults $64 \nRSVP TO: jill.mclean@jarie.com.au \nRSVP BY: August 27 2023 \nPAYMENT OPTIONS: Call 0400600111 direct to the RiverBoat Postman \, say it is for the SWIC booking and pay over the phone by credit card \nTRANSPORT: \nJust an hour from Sydney’s CBD\, The Riverboat Postman offers the perfect day trip for locals and tourists alike. You can’t miss us – we are right next to the train platform at the Hawkesbury River Station\, Brooklyn\, on Dangar Rd. \nIf you are coming by train\, WE NOW HAVE A LIFT AT THE STATION! It is by far the easiest way to get to Brooklyn\, and the trains which arrive from Newcastle at about 9.26am and from Sydney at 9.47am still allow plenty of time to get to the wharf. We usually return at about 1.10pm\, in time to catch the 1.24pm train towards Sydney  (the next one is 2.24pm if we are late back) and the 1.46pm train north. For timetable information\, use www.131500.com. Our station is called Hawkesbury River\, and our train from Sydney Central station departs from Platform 12 at 8.45am (always check before you get on!) \nIf you are coming by car\, there is usually enough parking at this time of the day. Parking in Brooklyn is free\, some is timed parking (4 hours\, which is more than enough as the cruise is just over 3 hours long) and some is untimed. There is limited specified disabled parking beside our shed\, and if necessary you can drive right up to the wharf\, drop off passengers then park the car. Parking on Sundays is particularly horrible\, so come by train if you can. \nIf you have a GPS in your car\, use ‘Dangar Road\, Brooklyn’ as the address. \nIf not\, take the Brooklyn/Mooney Mooney exit off the Freeway\, or Pacific Motorway (M1)\, follow all the signs to Brooklyn (these will bring you over the old Pacific Hwy bridge to the Sydney side of the river) and turn left onto Brooklyn Rd. Go all the way to the end of it and turn left when you can go no further. There we will be!
