SUMMARY:EXPLORE SYDNEY WALK – Palm Beach to Avalon Beach
DESCRIPTION:It will take us two hours to do this 7 km walk from South Palm Beach to Avalon Beach. This walk traverses three of Sydney’s finest beaches below some of its most expensive coastal real estate and the coastal views are outstanding for the entire walk. \nIt is not a difficult walk but be aware there are some long steps\, and that we’ll walk on the sand on Whale beach. \nWe will meet at 10am at the 2108 Espresso Café on the southern end of Palm Beach and climb up over the headland to the next beach\, Whale Beach. Then we’ll continue to Bangalley Head where we’ll cross the bush with the most stunning views and follow the path down to Avalon where we there are many cafés and boutiques. \nDATE: Wednesday\, 13 March 2024. \nTIME: 10 am – 12 pm \nMEETING POINT: 2108 Espresso Café\, 24 Ocean Road\, on the southern end of Palm Beach. SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – Watsons Bay to Double Bay
DESCRIPTION:This is a section of the Bondi to Manly wharf which we are repeating because it is fabulous and provides some shade protection from the sun. It starts at the Watsons Bay Wharf and continues through to Parsley Bay\, Nielson Park\, Bottle and Glass Point. Accompanies by stunning view\, you will keep walking through the Hermitage Foreshore Walk\, passing the many historical cottages\, reserves\, small beaches and bays\, before reaching Double Bay Wharf. This walk is approximately 11kms and will take approximately 3 hours. Easy walk. Undulating terrain with some steps along the Hermitage foreshore. Some sections involve street walking. You must not be carrying any injuries and be able to walk consistently at a moderate pace. DESCRIPTION:The SWIC Craft Group (which is actually a ‘needlecraft’ group) meets on the first Friday of the month from March to December. At the beginning of the year  the group has a voluntary ‘show and tell’ of work by those who wish to do so. \nMeetings are held in the homes of those members who are able to host. The format is ‘Open House’ from 12noon to 4.00pm and members are welcome to come for an hour\, or two\, or the whole afternoon. Afternoon tea is provided and members put $4 in the kitty to help cover the hostess’s expenses. \nThe group’s craft interests include knitting\, crochet\, embroidery\, cross stitch\, quilting\, patchwork and tapestry. DESCRIPTION:Dear Monthly Activists \nThis month we will visit the Female Factory in Parramatta \nParramatta Female Factory Institutions Precinct offers a unique insight into Australia’s past. Its historic institutions include the Parramatta Female Factory\, Parramatta Lunatic Asylum\, Roman Catholic Orphan School\, Parramatta Girls Home\, Kamballa & Taldree Children’s Shelter and the Norma Parker Detention Centre for women. \nAustralia’s first purpose-built institution for convict women\, the Parramatta Female Factory\, was a secure place of confinement\, industry and punishment modelled on the Workhouses and Bridewells of England. Convict women were viewed as ‘beyond redemption’ yet this is not reflected in the crimes for which they were transported with 65.3% having no prior convictions. The types of crimes punishable by transportation varied between England\, Scotland and Ireland. Theft predominated among the English and Scottish convicts\, whereas riot and sedition predominated among the Irish. While the English were more concerned with crimes protecting property and existing social order\, the Calvinistic Scots had severer sanctions for religious violations such as adultery\, immorality\, breaking the Sabbath and denial of the existence of God. SUMMARY:Challenging Walk - North Sydney Foreshore
DESCRIPTION:This walk is Sydney in a nutshell\, although without the beaches. It includes Wendy Whiteley’s Secret Garden\, the historic Coal Lader\, spectacular headland harbour views and Sydney’s beautiful angophora forests. The route runs along paths through a series of local parks beside the harbour connected by short sections of street walking. It is very accessible by public transport. This walk is approximately 11kms and will take approximately 2 and a half hours. Easy walk. Undulating terrain with some steps at Balls Head Reserve. Short sections of street walking. You must not be carrying any injuries and be able to walk consistently at a moderate pace.
