SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – Thornleigh to Eastwood
DESCRIPTION:This month’s walk will be a one-way bush walk which begins at the Thornleigh Train Station. It will take us through the northern part of Lane Cove National Park followed by Browns Waterhole Track onto Terrys Creek Walk and finally the Eastwood Train Station. We will have some noodles or a rice dish in an Asian restaurant in Eastwood for those who are interested in staying. \nThe walk is approximately 11km and will take around 3 hours to complete. Although most of the track is flat\, there are approximately 1.8km of steep descending steps at the beginning of the trail\, followed by hard rock path and finally hard dirt trail. This walk involves crossing a creek several times on rocks.  A good level of fitness is required and it is not recommended for people carrying an injury. \nMore details will be sent to members who are participating closer to the event date. \nNOTE: Please note that this month’s walk will be held on the first Monday instead of the first Tuesday of the month to avoid a conflict with the Biggest Morning Tea. \nDATE:  Monday 1 May 2023 \nTIME: 9.30am at Thornleigh Train Station \nVENUE: Thornleigh Train Station. \nRSVP TO: Sandy Tay\, Lining Kendall and Fritzi Casal at swic.challengingwalk@gmail.com \nRSVP BY: 23 April 2023

SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘Julia’ – Drama Theatre\, Sydney Opera House (STC)
DESCRIPTION:Playwright – Joanna Murray-Smith \nDirector – Sarah Goodes \nCast – Justine Clarke \nNot now\, not ever \nIn 2012\, Australia’s first female prime minister\, Julia Gillard\, gave a speech that sent shockwaves around the world. \nNow\, 10 years later\, one of Australia’s most esteemed and celebrated playwrights\, Joanna Murray-Smith\, brings the human story behind that speech to the stage. \nJulia is an extraordinary new play that will see Justine Clarke (Children of the Sun) embody the life and career that led to the ‘misogyny speech’\, in a phenomenal performance directed by Helpmann Award-winner Sarah Goodes (The Children). \nThis is both an intimate and compelling insight into the person behind the public mask\, and a reflection on the experience of women in contemporary politics. Combining genuine excerpts from Gillard’s speech with Murray-Smith’s incredible dramatic imagination\, this play is also a thrilling coming together of history and art. \nDATE: Saturday 29 April 2023 (MATINEE) \nTIME: 1.30pm (90 mins\, no interval) \nVENUE: Drama Theatre\, Sydney Opera House \nTICKETS: Standard Adult $93\, Seniors Concession $89 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets Q3 and Q4 \n To buy your tickets visit https://www.sydneytheatre.com.au/whats-on \nPOST-THEATRE: (Optional): Join Judith and Cherry for post-theatre Drinks and Chat at the Sydney Opera Bar\, on the Lower Concourse Level. \nRSVP TO: Cherry Spoor at bungalowbrennan@yahoo.com \nRSVP BY: 24 April 2023 \n************************************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2023 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2023\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for 2023.
