DESCRIPTION:Our next Art & Culture tour will be visiting the 25th Biennale of Sydney at White Bay Power Station. \nBACKGROUND: The Biennale of Sydney is one of the leading international contemporary art events. Since its inception in 1973\, the Biennale of Sydney has provided a platform for art and ideas celebrated at home and around the world. How lucky are we to have it right on our doorstep! \nThe theme of the 25th Biennale of Sydney is ReMemory. The term ‘rememory’ was coined by Toni Morrison in her bestselling novel\, Beloved. \nThe official website reads: “A means of revisiting\, reconstructing\, and reclaiming histories that have been erased or repressed\, Rememory signifies the intersection of memory and history\, where recollection becomes an act of reassembling fragments of the past—whether personal\, familial\, or collective. The 25th edition of the Biennale connects the delicate space between remembering and forgetting. By engaging with Rememory\, artists will highlight marginalised narratives\, share untold stories\, and inspire audiences to rethink how memory shapes identity\, belonging\, and the creation and celebration of new communities and connections”. \nArtistic Director\, Hoor Al Qasimi is quoted as saying “Sydney has a multicultural community at its core\, with people from different cultures from across the world choosing and calling this vibrant city as their home. I’m interested in exploring the multifaceted cultures and perspectives within this city\, working with local artists and communities\, as well as bringing new voices to the Biennale. It is an honour and privilege to be nominated and then selected to be Artistic Director of the 25th Biennale of Sydney\, which I have been visiting for over a decade now. DESCRIPTION:The SWIC Craft Group (which is actually a ‘needlecraft’ group) meets on the first Friday of the month from March to December. At the beginning of the year  the group has a voluntary ‘show and tell’ of work by those who wish to do so. \nMeetings are held in the homes of those members who are able to host. The format is ‘Open House’ from 12noon to 4.00pm and members are welcome to come for an hour\, or two\, or the whole afternoon. Afternoon tea is provided and members put $4 in the kitty to help cover the hostess’s expenses. \nThe group’s craft interests include knitting\, crochet\, embroidery\, cross stitch\, quilting\, patchwork and tapestry. SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – Maroubra to Bondi  
DESCRIPTION:The Maroubra to Bondi Beach Coastal Walk is a 12 km clifftop walk that combines several shorter trails into a route that links all the main beaches in Sydney’s eastern suburbs. The walk features stunning views\, beaches\, parks\, cliffs\, bays and rock pools. There are some sections where you need to walk a short part along suburban streets\, but most of the route is along footpaths. This iconic coastal walk passes many beaches\, including Bondi Beach\, Mackenzies Bay\, Tamarama\, Bronte Beach\, Clovelly Beach\, Gordon’s Bay\, Coogee Beach\, Lurline Bay and Maroubra Beach. \nElevation gain is approximately 370 meters. \nIt is best to wear hiking shoes rather than sneakers.   This will help with grip and provide a level of protection for your feet.   Waterproof is even better as it might rain. \nThere are a few spots with steep stairs but nothing too challenging.   Some of you may benefit from using walking poles\, so if you have them\, it might be useful to bring them along.   If you would like poles and do not have them\, please let us know as someone may be able to lend you a pair. \nThe walk finishes at Bondi where we’ll stop for lunch at a cafe (Glory Days or similar) if you’d like to join us. \nBring a hat\, raincoat\, sunscreen and water.  There is very little shade so a hat is essential.  Water is available along the route but please bring at least 1 Litre with you and preferably 1.5 litres. \nYou should not have any injuries and be able to walk consistently at a moderate pace if you would like to join us on this walk.  No sandals please. \nDATE: May 5 2026 \nTIME: 9.30am – 1.30pm approximately which includes  lunch in Bondi at the end. \nVENUE: Meet at the Jack Vanney Reserve in Maroubra near the Pool Coffee Eatery. \n \nCOST: Public transport expenses.   Lunch is at your own expense. \nRSVP:  Please click on the button below to register your attendance.\nRSVP BY: Thursday April 28 2026. \nLEADERS:  Rani Haet (0452 588 153) and Sue Jamieson (0488 170 285).   On the day of the hike\, please let us know if you are unable to make it. \nTRANSPORT:  The 377X bus goes there from Martin Place Station. If you don’t know the game\, it has a bit in common with the card game Rummy.
