SUMMARY:Craft Group
DESCRIPTION:The SWIC Craft Group (which is actually a ‘needlecraft’ group) meets on the first Friday of the month from March to December. At the beginning of the year  the group has a voluntary ‘show and tell’ of work by those who wish to do so. \nMeetings are held in the homes of those members who are able to host. The format is ‘Open House’ from 12noon to 4.00pm and members are welcome to come for an hour\, or two\, or the whole afternoon. Afternoon tea is provided and members put $4 in the kitty to help cover the hostess’s expenses. \nThe group’s craft interests include knitting\, crochet\, embroidery\, cross stitch\, quilting\, patchwork and tapestry. DESCRIPTION:The Portia Geach Memorial Award is Australia’s most prestigious art prize for portraiture by women artists.  \nFirst awarded in 1965\, the Portia Geach Memorial Award was established by Florence Kate Geach in memory of her sister\, artist Portia Geach. As per the direction of the will\, the Award is annually presented to an Australian female artist for the best portrait painted from life of a man or woman distinguished in art\, letters or the sciences.  \nGeach was widely acclaimed as a leading artist and was a frequent commentator in the national media – making her an iconic figure in the Australian arts community.  \nThe $30\,000 non-acquisitive Portia Geach Memorial Award is given by Perpetual as trustee\, to the entry with the highest artistic merit. \nDATE: Thursday Oct 22nd  \nTIME: 9.45am – 11.15am (Guided Tour: 1.5 hours).
