Movie Group

Tuesday, January 28, 2020 @ 9:30 AM - 1:30 PM

We start the New Year with more wonderful choices: 1917 and Little Women are both nominated for Best Movie Oscars.

1917 is NOT “just another war movie”. It is magnificent film making, physically and very emotionally immersive – for both men and women. A struggle for survival.  Set over 100 years ago, the prospect of another war is always real.

Little Women…who didn’t want to be Jo? Sure to be a popular choice with our group.

And for a world that has become so cynical, desperately needing kindness and compassion, Tom Hanks as Mister Rogers in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a balm for the soul.

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms – is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbour Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.
