Our July event is a guided tour of the 2021 Archibald Prize Exhibition. This exhibition is often described as Australia’s most engaging art event and is eagerly anticipated by artists and audiences alike. This year ‘The Archies’ turn 100!
The Archibald Prize, first awarded in 1921, is one of Australia’s favourite art awards, and one of its most prestigious. Awarded to the best portrait painting, it is a who’s who of Australian culture – from politicians to celebrities, sporting heroes to artists. The Wynne Prize is awarded to the best landscape painting of Australian scenery, or figure sculpture, while the Sulman Prize is given to the best subject painting, genre painting or mural project in oil, acrylic, water colour or mixed media.
ADVANCE NOTICE: Art & Culture’s August event will be a Tour of ‘Archie 100’ on Tuesday 17 August 2021. ‘Archie 100’ marks The Archie’s historic 100th milestone. This landmark exhibition explores the rich history of the Archibald Prize, unearthing fascinating stories behind more than 100 artworks carefully selected from every decade. The AGNSW has offered us a reduced tour price for SWIC Members who book the Archibald in July and then book ‘Archie 100’ in August.
