
Welcome to Sydney Symphony Orchestra concert of a Romantic music by Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky (1839-1881) conducted by conductor Simone Young.
Mussorgsky’s most imaginative and frequently performed work is the cycle of piano pieces describing ‘paintings in sound’ called Pictures at an Exhibition. This composition, is best known through an orchestral arrangement done by Maurice Ravel.
It was also used in the popular culture: by Michael Jackson in the song “HIStory” and by rock band Emerson, Lake & Palmer in 1971 concert.
We will meet before the concert for complimentary tea/coffee in the foyer from 10am.
After the concert some members may like to stay for lunch/drinks at the House Canteen below the Opera House.
