The Movie Group meets on the 4th Tuesday morning each month to see a film at the Dendy Quays Cinema (between Circular Quay and the Opera House).

There are usually three films for members to choose from. Details of the films and times will be posted on the SWIC Movie Group Calendar of Events on Thursday or Friday in the week before the showing, when the program is available. Please buy your ticket when you arrive at the theatre. No need to RSVP, just come along.

SWIC members usually meet before the film in the foyer of the cinema. Afterwards we go for a coffee or light lunch to the upstairs section of the City Extra Cafe opposite the Circular Quay Ferry Terminals.

10.00am – The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society
A writer develops bonds with the residents of Guernsey when she writes a book about their experiences of the Nazi occupation on the island during World War II.

10.00am – The Other Side of Hope
A newcomer to Helsinki is befriended by a budding – if completely inexperienced – restaurateur in Aki Kaurismäki’s hilarious and compassionate new comedy.

10.30am – Last Flag Flying
Thirty years after serving together in the Vietnam War, Larry “Doc” Shepherd, Sal Nealon and the Rev. Richard Mueller reunite for a different type of mission: to bury Doc’s son, a young Marine killed in Iraq. Forgoing burial at Arlington National Cemetery, Doc and his old buddies take the casket on a bittersweet trip up the coast to New Hampshire. Along the way, the three men find themselves reminiscing and coming to terms with the shared memories of a war that continues to shape their lives.
