Please join us at the Trust Café at S.H Erwin Gallery to commemorate International Women’s Day for this month’s Morning Tea. Coffee, Tea, finger sandwiches and lamingtons will be served.
International Women’s Day is a global holiday celebrated annually & as a focal point in the women’s rights movement. IWD gives focus to issues such as gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence and abuse against women.
We are delighted to announce our speaker for International Women’s Day, Fatima Rahmati.
About Fatima Rahmati
Fatima was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and at the age of five, she and her family fled as refugees from Afghanistan to Australia.
She has almost two decades’ experience in advocacy and community development across US-based organisations such as IRAP – The International Refugee Assistance Project, Women for Afghan Women (WAW), and Afghan Hands, a not-for-profit aiming to help widows gain independence, literacy, and liveable wages.
Fatima now works as an Employment Services Coordinator at the Asylum Seekers Centre in Sydney, where she helps connect people seeking asylum with employment opportunities, and advocates for their access to work and training.
About Asylum Seekers Centre
Established in 1993, the Asylum Seekers Centre (ASC) is the first organisation in Australia to open its doors specifically to welcome and support people seeking asylum.
We provide practical and personal support for people seeking safety in Greater Sydney, and advocate for fair and humane policies at every level.
The vital services we offer – healthcare, employment support, community and LGBTQIA+ social groups, crisis casework, childcare support, direct personal advocacy, and more – help people seeking asylum navigate a cruel, broken system.
Please note seats are limited to 30.
