SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Marion Hall Best: Interiors
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy something a little different in July and join Art & Culture for a visit to the Hazelhurst Gallery and Arts Centre for a tour of the gallery’s current exhibition that colourfully charts the work of Marion Hall Best\, whose interior decorating style vibrated with colour through her signature glazed painted finishes on walls and ceilings. On display is original furniture\, fabrics\, furnishings and fashion over the four decades from the mid-1930s. Described as ‘electrifying\, vital and avant-garde’\, Best’s interior decorating schemes were unashamedly modern at a time when other interior designers preferred a subdued palette and period furniture. Best was inspired by the modernist movement and colour theory of artists of the interwar years. She is attributed with introducing international modernism to the Australian market through importing furniture and furnishings from all over the world including: textiles by Marimekko\, Jim Thompson Thai silks and Indian cottons\, French wallpapers from Nobilis and Follot\, furniture by Knoll\, Herman Miller and Cassina\, lighting from Flos and Iittala. \nDATE: Tuesday 17 July 2018 \nTIME: Meet at the Gallery at 10.50am for our tour that commences at 11.00am \nVENUE: The Hazelhurst Gallery and Arts Centre\, 782 Kingsway\, Gymea NSW 2227 \nThe Gallery is situated on 1.4 hectares of landscaped grounds.  Please join us for lunch at the delightful Hazelhurst Café. SUMMARY:Art & Culture - 'Another Perspective With Paper'
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Join us at the Grace Cossington Smith Gallery in Wahroonga to view the exhibition ‘Another Perspective with Paper’\, where we will see the inventive ways 11 artists have used paper to create very different and diverse works of art. \n“Paper is fragile and strong\, absorbent and rigid\, flat and bulky\, pliable and solid\, smooth and rough…and venerable to decay. Paper has been considered second best to other art materials\, consequently there is a sense of freedom for an artist to experiment without worry of preciousness. Whether as a responsive and characterful surface to interact with or as a material to sculpt\, paper responds readily to artists’ ideas and transformations.” \nThis exhibition includes work hung\, projected\, sculpted and encased. \nDATE: Tuesday 18 July 2017 \nTIME: 11.00am – 12.15 pm.
