SUMMARY:Out 'n About: Carisbrook House & Morning Tea Lane Cove (September 2026)
DESCRIPTION:Experience life in the 1880s… \n \nWander through this house and immerse yourself in rooms that evoke a day in the lives of Charles and Marian Brooks\, who built this sandstone house on land owned by the family from the 1850s. Stories of the family and the house echo a time when the North Shore was a world away from the heart of Sydney. \nSet in tranquil gardens that go down to the waters of Burns Bay\, Carisbrook is Sydney’s only house museum to capture the middle-class lifestyle of the Victorian era. \nCarisbrook is a heritage-listed former private residence and now house and local history. The property is owned by Lane Cove Council. Built from locally quarried sandstone\, Carisbrook is a survivor of a time when land around the Lane Cove River was a world away from Sydney Town. \nOur guided visit transports us back to life as you would have lived it one hundred and forty years ago. The house is furnished as it would have been when the original owners\, the Brooks family\, moved into their new house. Wander through the rooms and experience the lifestyle of the Brooks—each room embellished with the trivia of daily family life in that era. \nThe Exhibition Room provides introductory videos telling the story of the Brooks family and the Carisbrook Estate. Here the Lane Cove Historical Society displays some of their extensive Carisbrook Collection covering the broader history of Lane Cove life. \nDATE: Thursday 24th September 2026    18 people max       \nTIME: 10.00am-12.15pm \nCOST: $20.00 which includes morning tea. \nLOCATION: 334 Burns Bay Road\, Lane Cove\, Sydney \nRSVP to: Caren Trafford\, Out ‘n About Organiser  swic.activitymonthly@gmail.com  (Subject: Carisbrook House)\n and wait for confirmation of a place before paying. \nPlaces are limited. \nPlease check by sending an email to swic.activitymonthly@gmail.com that there is still space before paying. \nRSVP and PAY by: 14th September 2026 \nPAYMENT OPTIONS:  \nPayment Option 1 (Preferred): By Credit Card through the Payments section of the website \nPayment Option 2: Online (direct deposit) into the SWIC bank account \n   Account Name: Sydney Women’s International Club Incorporated \n   BSB No: 062-005 \nAccount No: 11889493 \nDescription: Event name + your initial and surname
