Will a gentleman caller be the answer to their problems? \nWith Blazey Best as the indomitable matriarch Amanda Wingfield\, director Liesel Badorrek reignites Tennessee Williams’ beautifully crafted and devastating slice of life. SUMMARY:SWIC Theatre Group – 5 October 2024 – ‘Seventeen’ - Seymour Theatre (MATINEE)
DESCRIPTION:By Matthew Whittet \nWhat did it feel like when you were seventeen? What’s it like to be seventeen now? \nJoyful and profound\, Matthew Whittet’s Seventeen tells the story of a group of high school students\, experiencing something we all remember well\, the last day of school – for ever. \nThrough a fog of stolen alcohol\, six teenagers gather in a playground late at night to share the moment in their lives when the past gives way to an uncertain future\, and where secrets are spilled\, and friendships are changed. But in a revelatory theatrical twist\, all roles are performed by older actors who were seventeen many years ago\, bringing the experience of age to the dreams of hopeful youths. \nWho says you’re only young once? \nMatthew Whittet’s play is all at once knowing\, innocent and deeply moving. \nPremiering at Belvoir almost 10 years ago and produced to great acclaim in the UK at the Lyric Hammersmith\, this is Seventeen’s first major Sydney revival. \n DATE: Saturday 5 October 2024 \nTIME: 2.00pm (MATINEE) – 80 minutes\, no interval \nVENUE: Seymour Theatre\, Corner City Road and Cleveland Street\, Chippendale NSW 2008 (opposite the University of Sydney) \nTheatre Group Co-Convenors\, Cherry Spoor and Judith Nguyen\, have purchased seats E7 and E8 \nTo buy your tickets contact the Box Office on 7255 1561 or email boxoffice@seymour.sydney.edu.au \nPRE-THEATRE DRINKS/SNACKS (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for pre-theatre drinks/small food at the BOX OFFICE CAFÉ at 1.00pm. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – 19 September 2024 – ‘Colder Than Here’
DESCRIPTION:Playwright – Laura Wade \nDirector – Janine Watson \nColder Than Here is an offbeat comedy about finding light even in the darkest of times. Wade’s heart-breaking journey through love\, loss and laughter earned her a Critics’ Circle Theatre Award and an Olivier Award nomination. \nMyra’s typically middle-class family are scarily normal in their eccentricities\, especially when it comes to dealing with her illness. The boiler is on the blink\, the cat’s gone missing and the perfect funeral needs planning\, but her husband Alec would rather bury his head in a newspaper while daughters Harriet and Jenna have their own problems. Myra might be busy researching flatpack coffins and creating a PowerPoint presentation of her dying wishes\, but her last big project is to fix her family. \nNote: Contains coarse language and adult themes\, including references to terminal illness \n“Wade’s original and beautifully observed play balances raw emotion with a deliciously delicate black humour.” The Stage \n“Laura Wade’s play is a 90-minute masterpiece\, a jewel\, dark but translucent.” Sunday Times \n“Disconcertingly funny and reflective in equal measure.” The Theatre Review \nDATE: Thursday 19 September 2024 \nTIME: 6.15pm (90 minutes – no interval) \nVENUE: Ensemble Theatre\, 78 McDougall St\, Kirribilli NSW 2061 \nTICKETS: Purchase your ticket at the Box Office on 8918 3400 or on the website at https://boxoffice.ensemble.com.au/\nCo-Convenors Judith Nguyen and Cherry Spoor have purchased tickets C41 and C42 \nPOST-PERFORMANCE (Optional): You are welcome to join Judith and Cherry for a pre-theatre dinner at Bayly’s Bistro (within the theatre complex) – time TBA \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at Judith.m.nguyen@gmail.com by 12 September 2024\, stating whether you wish to join us\, as we will need to book a table. \n                           ************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2024 \nTo enable you to plan your diary\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for the remainder of 2024. But Tim and John have each other\, and they’ll need to hold on tight for what’s to come. \nDeeply felt\, frank and moving\, Tim Conigrave’s memoir of living and dying changed Australia. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘The Seagull’ at Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Anton Chekhov\nAdapted by Andrew Upton\nDirected by Imara Savage \n  \nWhen life imitates art \nSigrid Thornton returns to the Sydney Theatre Company as the larger-than-life diva Arkadina\, in a new adaptation from Australia’s greatest interpreter of Chekhov and former STC Artistic Director\, Andrew Upton. \nIn a splendid country house beside a beautiful lake\, love triangles\, intrigue and thwarted egos are running amok. The ageing starlet Irina Arkadina has arrived for a romantic getaway with her much younger lover\, the novelist Trigorin. Arkadina’s son\, the struggling playwright Konstantin\, is besotted with a beautiful young ingenue from the next house over\, Nina. When a flirtation blossoms between Nina and Trigorin\, jealousy and ambition throw the whole party into various states of crisis. \nDirector Imara Savage last wowed STC audiences with her revelatory production Saint Joan (2018). In The Seagull\, Savage and Upton will bring Chekhov’s wry and offbeat sense of humour to the fore and present a beautiful investigation of the power of art and the complicated personalities that make it happen. \nThe first of Chekhov’s great masterpieces\, The Seagull is a rich\, funny and moving play that is unmissable for anyone who loves theatre. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – 8 November 2023 – ‘The Dictionary of Lost Words’ - STC
DESCRIPTION:Adapted by Verity Laughton from the novel by Pip Williams\nDirected by Jessica Arthur \nDiscover the secret power of words \nPip Williams’ award-winning New York Times bestseller and book club favourite\, The Dictionary of Lost Words\, is brought to vivid life in a new adaptation for the stage by Verity Laughton and directed by one of Australia’s best directors\, Jessica Arthur. \nIt’s 1886 and the very first edition of the Oxford English Dictionary is being compiled. Four-year-old Esme Nicoll has a front row seat. Well\, she’s hiding under the sorting table\, anyway. As her father and his male colleagues decide which words stay and which go\, Esme collects the discarded (often gendered) scraps to compile her own far more radical\, far more magical dictionary. \nA sweeping historical tale in the spirit of The Harp in the South\, The Dictionary of Lost Words follows Esme from her childhood in the 1880s\, into adulthood at the height of the women’s suffrage movement and the beginning of the First World War. \nThis novel has captured the imagination of hundreds of thousands of readers around the globe\, and was recommended by book club trendsetters like Reese Witherspoon. In 2023\, Verity Laughton’s adaptation unfurls this beautiful and transportive reflection on the love between a daughter and her father\, at a time when the women’s rights movement was first gaining traction\, into a delectable and warm night of theatre. \nApprox. duration 2 hrs 20 mins (including interval)\nContent Strong language \nDATE: Wednesday 8 November 2023 \nTIME: 7.30pm \nVENUE: Drama Theatre\, Sydney Opera House \nTICKETS: Single Tickets – Adult A Reserve $114\, Seniors Concession $109 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets J6 and J7 \n To buy your tickets visit https://www.sydneytheatre.com.au/whats-on \nPRE-THEATRE: (Optional): Join Judith and Cherry for pre-theatre Drinks and Chat at the Sydney Opera Bar\, on the Lower Concourse Level at 6.00pm. \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au \nRSVP BY: 1 November 2023 \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2023 \nOur remaining play for the year is shown below. \n\n\n\nDate & Day\nPlay\nType\nTheatre\n   Time\n Seats (Convenors)\n\n\n2 December (Saturday)\nThe Seagull (MATINEE)\nNew interpretation of Chekhov’s masterpiece\nRoslyn Packer Theatre (STC)\n1.30pm\nD11\, D12 (A Reserve)

SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘The Importance of Being Earnest’ at Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Oscar Wilde \nDirected by Sarah Giles \n Hilarious\, naughty and Wilde \nThe fabulous Helen Thomson (Death of a Salesman\, Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis) is back in this outrageous\, entertaining and brilliantly camp new vision of one of theatre’s greatest comedies. \nOscar Wilde’s dazzling wit meets the lush and bracingly contemporary style of acclaimed director Sarah Giles. This production will see The Importance of Being Earnest’s skewering of Victorian London’s silliness and snobbery in what promises to be an unforgettable night of hilarity. \nAlgernon Moncrieff and Jack Worthing are two best friends who are both living double lives. In the city they’re playboys with a libertine reputation\, but in the country they assume pious alter egos to get away from it all. Things get sticky when love enters the mix and the men have to keep track of who they’re pretending to be and when. Floating haughtily above it all is the withering Lady Bracknell – played by Thomson – Victorian London’s socialite extraordinaire and the gatekeeper of all things ‘high society’. \nThe gold standard of theatrical comedy\, The Importance of Being Earnest is a razor-sharp and endlessly relevant reminder of our tendency to get hung up on small trivialities while the important things in life pass us by. \nApprox. duration 2 hrs 20 mins (including interval) \nDATE: Thursday 14 September 2023 \nTIME: 7.30pm \nVENUE: Roslyn Packer Theatre\, 22 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Tickets are $111.00 (Seniors) \nJudith and Cherry have purchased seats B26 and B27 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.sydneytheatrecompany.com \nPRE-THEATRE DRINKS/SNACKS (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for pre-theatre drinks/small food or boards at The Theatre Bar at the End of the Wharf. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - "The Weekend" - Belvoir Street Theatre
DESCRIPTION:Charlotte Wood – Original Author\nSue Smith – Adapter\nSarah Goodes – Director\n\nFour women have known each other for decades\, and have a friendship that goes with it – good-humoured\, caring\, and forthright when required. But Sylvie has died\, and when the remaining three come together to pack up her beach house\, they find maybe they haven’t been as honest – or as good friends – as they thought. \nAdele (Belinda Giblin)\, a once-well-known actress\, Wendy (Melita Durisic)\, a high-profile academic\, and Jude (Toni Scanlan)\, who ran one of the city’s most celebrated restaurants\, learn things they should have learned years ago. There’s a difference between growing old\, and growing wise. \nAnd at the heart of it all\, an old dog keeps them company\, silently bearing witness to the folly of age\, and the warmth of true friendship. \nCharlotte Wood’s novel really struck a chord with many readers\, so when a playwright as fine as Sue Smith approached us about turning it into a play for Belvoir we jumped. This is a special play – moving\, honest\, thoughtful\, and a gift for three of our finest actors. This is heartland stuff. – Eamon \nThe Weekend is the proud recipient of the Blake Beckett Trust Award. \nDATE: Thursday 10 August 2023 \nTIME: 7.30pm \nVENUE: Upstairs Theatre\, Belvoir Street Theatre\, Gadigal Country\, 25 Belvoir Street\, Surry Hills\, NSW 2010 \nTICKETS: Seniors Concession $72 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets F31 and F32 \n To buy your tickets visit www.belvoir.com.au or ring the box office on 9699 3444 \nPRE-THEATRE: (Optional): Join Judith and Cherry for pre-theatre Drinks and Snacks downstairs at Belvoir at 6.00pm \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au \nRSVP BY: 7 August 2023 \n************************************************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2023 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for the rest of 2023\, below are the dates and selected plays that we are yet to see. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘On the Beach’ at Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Nevil Shute\nAdapted for the stage by Tommy Murphy\nDirected by Kip Williams \nStanding on the edge \nTwo of Australia’s great theatre-makers\, Artistic Director Kip Williams and playwright Tommy Murphy (Foxtel’s The Twelve\, Holding the Man) join forces for this world premiere STC commission: a vast\, poetic and haunting story of community\, dignity and love in dark times. \nIn 1957\, Nevil Shute’s classic novel On the Beach introduced the world to an uncanny post-apocalyptic vision that sees Australia as one of the last surviving outposts of civilisation on a planet destroyed by nuclear fallout. Two years later it was transformed into a classic film starring Gregory Peck\, Ava Gardner and Fred Astaire. \nA small group of friends in Melbourne – some local\, some survivors from the US Navy – are living out their eerily prosaic lives and loves in the wake of World War III. But when a mysterious distress call rings out across the Pacific Ocean\, the characters are called to choose between duty to the ones they love and duty to the human race. \nIn the spirit of past productions like Chimerica and The Harp in the South: Part One and Part Two\, Williams brings his sumptuous\, innovative style to match Murphy’s beautiful\, soulful writing. On the Beach is a new and gripping portrait of Australian society\, a prescient insight into the times we are living through and a deeply poignant reverie on the indestructible power of human connection. \nApprox. duration 2 hrs 40 mins (including interval)\nContent Suicide \nDATE: Wednesday 19 July 2023 \nTIME: 7.30pm \nVENUE: Roslyn Packer Theatre\, 22 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Tickets are $65.00 and $61.00 for this PREVIEW PERFORMANCE \nJudith and Cherry have purchased seats C19 and C20 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.sydneytheatrecompany.com \nPRE-THEATRE DRINKS/SNACKS (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for pre-theatre drinks/snacks at a bar in Walsh Bay. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ at the Ensemble
DESCRIPTION:Ensemble Theatre is delighted to bring to the stage Tennessee Williams’ gothic melodrama\, ‘Suddenly Last Summer’\, which is as relevant today as it was when written over 60 years ago. \nDirected by Shaun Rennie\, ‘Suddenly Last Summer’ is vibrant\, funny and beautiful\, and takes the audience into the poetic world of redemption and love\, shadowed by the dark secrets a family can hold. \nDeep amongst the monstrous flytraps and ferns in Sebastian’s garden\, tendrils of a sordid family secret are beginning to unfurl. \nSebastian Venable died mysteriously last summer\, and his mother Violet will do anything in her power to protect his memory – and her own reputation. Young cousin Catharine was the only witness to this nightmarish event. She is desperate to reveal what really happened\, but Violet will go to any lengths to stop the ugly truth from seeing the light of day. \nDATE: Thursday 8 June 2023 \nTIME: 6.15pm (NOTE START TIME) – 90 minutes\, no interval \nVENUE: Ensemble Theatre\, 78 McDougall St\, Kirribilli NSW 2061 \nTICKETS: Regular $80\, Seniors $77 + Booking Fee\nCo-Convenors Judith Nguyen and Cherry Spoor have purchased tickets G30 and G31 \nPurchase your ticket at the Box Office on 8918 3400 or on the website at https://boxoffice.ensemble.com.au/ \nPRE-PERFORMANCE (Optional): You are welcome to join Judith and Cherry for a post-theatre debrief and digestif at Jim’s Foyer Bar (within the theatre complex). \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au by 1 June 2023\, stating whether you wish to join us. \n                           ************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2023 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2023\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group in 2023. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘Julia’ – Drama Theatre\, Sydney Opera House (STC)
DESCRIPTION:Playwright – Joanna Murray-Smith \nDirector – Sarah Goodes \nCast – Justine Clarke \nNot now\, not ever \nIn 2012\, Australia’s first female prime minister\, Julia Gillard\, gave a speech that sent shockwaves around the world. \nNow\, 10 years later\, one of Australia’s most esteemed and celebrated playwrights\, Joanna Murray-Smith\, brings the human story behind that speech to the stage. \nJulia is an extraordinary new play that will see Justine Clarke (Children of the Sun) embody the life and career that led to the ‘misogyny speech’\, in a phenomenal performance directed by Helpmann Award-winner Sarah Goodes (The Children). \nThis is both an intimate and compelling insight into the person behind the public mask\, and a reflection on the experience of women in contemporary politics. Combining genuine excerpts from Gillard’s speech with Murray-Smith’s incredible dramatic imagination\, this play is also a thrilling coming together of history and art. \nDATE: Saturday 29 April 2023 (MATINEE) \nTIME: 1.30pm (90 mins\, no interval) \nVENUE: Drama Theatre\, Sydney Opera House \nTICKETS: Standard Adult $93\, Seniors Concession $89 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets Q3 and Q4 \n To buy your tickets visit https://www.sydneytheatre.com.au/whats-on \nPOST-THEATRE: (Optional): Join Judith and Cherry for post-theatre Drinks and Chat at the Sydney Opera Bar\, on the Lower Concourse Level. \nRSVP TO: Cherry Spoor at bungalowbrennan@yahoo.com \nRSVP BY: 24 April 2023 \n************************************************************************* \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2023 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2023\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for 2023. SUMMARY:Theatre Group – ‘A Broadcast Coup’
DESCRIPTION:For our first theatre outing for 2023\, we will go to the Ensemble Theatre to see the long-awaited world premiere of writer and broadcaster\, Melanie Tait’s (‘The Appleton Ladies’ Potato Race’) thought-provoking\, sharp comedy\, A BROADCAST COUP. \nA major highlight of the 2023 Sydney Festival\, A BROADCAST COUP incisively delves into the abuse of power and lack of accountability from controversial public figures. \nCut-throat journalist Jez Connell is out for her next sting. It’s been a year since she brought down one of TV’s most lauded stars for behaving badly\, and now she’s got Michael King\, the top-rated darling of public radio\, in her sights. This time\, it’s personal. \nMelanie Tait says – “This play draws on my decade plus working in the media – from things I would see and hear across networks and\, to be honest\, just thought were part of working in that arena. It was only after the Me Too reckoning I began to see that some behaviour was unacceptable and could even change.” \nDirected by Janine Watson. \nDATE: Wednesday 15 February 2023 \nTIME: 7.30pm (90 minutes\, no interval) \nVENUE: The Ensemble Theatre\, 78 McDougall Street\, Kirribilli NSW 2061 \nTICKETS: Standard Adult $80\, Seniors Concession $77 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets F17 and F18  \nTo buy your tickets visit https://boxoffice.ensemble.com.au/ or call (02) 8918 3460 \nPRE-THEATRE: (Optional): Join Judith and Cherry for pre-theatre Dinner at Bayly’s Bistro \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au indicating whether you would like to join us for dinner at 5.45pm\, as we need to book a table \n*********************************************************** \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2023 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2023\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for 2023. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'The Caretaker'
DESCRIPTION:This month we will have to pleasure of seeing Harold Pinter’s ‘The Caretaker’. Many of us will have studied this play at secondary school – or even taught it! \nIt’s a literary masterpiece that delves into the turbulent relationships between a homeless man and two polar opposite brothers. In this extraordinarily mischievous comedy\, Pinter cranks up the tension\, piles on the laughs and teases out the emotional foibles of three lonely men. \nAston asks down-and-out Davies to be a live-in caretaker. Davies leaps at the chance to change his fortunes\, but the trouble is he doesn’t know what a caretaker should do\, especially in a room filled with junk. When Aston’s manipulative brother Mike shows up\, the power struggle begins. Why does Aston collect all this stuff? Will Davies ever get a pair of decent shoes? And who will fix the drip in the ceiling? \nDirector Iain Sinclair (‘A View from the Bridge’) teams up once more with Darren Gilshenan (‘Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?’) for this explosive\, compelling theatrical event. \nDATE: Wednesday\, 2 November 2022 \nTIME: 7.30pm – 2 hours 20 minutes (including interval) \nVENUE: The Ensemble Theatre\, 78 McDougall Street\, Kirribilli NSW 2061 \nTICKETS: Standard Adult $80\, Seniors Concession $77 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets E21 and E22 \nTo buy your tickets visit https://boxoffice.ensemble.com.au/ or call (02) 8918 3460 \nPRE-THEATRE DINNER (Optional): Join us at Bayly’s Bistro (in the theatre) at 6.00pm \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au if you wish to join is for dinner as we will need to book a table \nRSVP BY: Monday 24 October 2022 \n

SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'Looking for Alibrandi'
DESCRIPTION:This month we are going to enjoy a Saturday matinee at Belvoir\, enabling our members who have weekday commitments to attend. \nBy Vidya Rajan\, based on the book by Melina Marchetta. Directed by Stephen Nicolazzo. \nThe beloved novel of migration\, growing up\, and Sydney – now a play! \nThree generations of women. The Italian-Australian experience. A tale of Sydney. A much-loved modern classic novel\, a ground-breaking film\, and now at Belvoir\, a simply great night out. \nIt’s the last year of school\, and 17-year- old Josephine Alibrandi can’t wait for her future to begin. If only she can get past the world of her Nonna\, holding on to the values of the old country; and the world of her Mum\, full of care and secrets. It’s time to take her place in the real world\, beyond her family\, beyond being an Alibrandi. \nBut this is the year Josie gets to know her father. This is the year she falls in love. And this is the year she uncovers the truth – and finds the Alibrandi she has been searching for. \nWe’re really excited to see how this classic of first and second generation Italian migration plays now. It has a bit of everything – teen romance\, coming-of-age\, tragi-comedy in a very Australian vein. Also\, it’s wonderful to have Stephen Nicolazzo directing for the Belvoir stage – he’ll bring a very Alibrandi flair – Eamon \nDATE: Saturday 8 October 2022 \nTIME: 2.00pm \nVENUE: Upstairs Theatre\, Belvoir Street Theatre\, Gadigal Country\, 25 Belvoir Street\, Surry Hills\, NSW 2010 \nTICKETS: $75 (Seniors) \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets F27 and F28 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.belvoir.com.au or ring the box office on 9699 3444 \nPRE-THEATRE SNACKS/DRINKS (Optional): Join us at the downstairs Theatre Bar for snacks and chat before the performance at 1.00pm. \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au \nRSVP BY: 1 October 2022 \n*************************************************************************** \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2022 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2022\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for the remainder of 2022. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'Tell Me I'm Here'
DESCRIPTION:This month we are in for a special late Sunday afternoon treat at Belvoir\, enabling our members who have weekday commitments to attend. \nBy Veronica Nadine Gleeson\, based on the book by Anne Deveson\nDirected by Leticia Cáceres \nAnne’s life – the familiar juggle of marriage\, career\, emotions\, chaos – is thrown off-balance when her son Jonathan begins speaking oddly\, standing strangely\, flashing into irrationality and rage. Is it just a phase\, part of growing up? The years pass\, and it’s clear\, Anne’s son has been diagnosed with schizophrenia. But putting a name to it is one thing – getting attention\, getting help is another. Even the strongest families\, the most steadfast parents\, buckle under such stress. \nHeart-rending\, exquisitely touching\, a play which speaks things which normally aren’t spoken. A play about getting on with life\, before it’s too late. \n‘Tell Me I’m Here’ is the proud recipient of the Blake Beckett Trust Award. \nDATE: Sunday 21 August 2022 (Preview session) \nTIME: 6.30pm \nVENUE: Upstairs Theatre\, Belvoir Street Theatre\, Gadigal Country\, 25 Belvoir Street\, Surry Hills\, NSW 2010 \nTICKETS: Preview $57 \nJudith and Cherry have purchased tickets B20 and B21 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.belvoir.com.au or ring the box office on 9699 3444 \nPRE-THEATRE SNACKS/DRINKS (Optional): Join us at the downstairs Theatre Bar for snacks and chat before the performance at 5.30pm \nRSVP TO: Judith Nguyen at nguyenjm@bigpond.net.au \nRSVP BY: 17 August 2022 \n*************************************************************************** \nTHEATRE GROUP – Looking Ahead in 2022 \nTo enable you to plan your diary for 2022\, below are the dates and selected plays for Theatre Group for the remainder of 2022. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'A Doll's House'
DESCRIPTION:Join us in June for an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic play. \nAdapted for the stage by Joanna Murray-Smith \nDirector – Mark Kilmurry \nTo the world\, Nora Helmer has it all: a well-respected husband\, an immaculate home and three darling children. But underneath the façade of a confident modern woman juggling her life\, lies a secret. Or two. When an old ghost comes knocking on the Helmer’s door\, their seemingly solid marriage is shaken to the core. \nChantelle Jamieson (‘Killing Katie: Confessions of a Book Club’) fiercely steps into the shoes of one of the most iconic female characters in dramatic history. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'The Picture of Dorian Gray' - Roslyn Packer Theatre (STC)
DESCRIPTION:By Oscar Wilde \nAdapted and directed by Kip Williams \nA breath-taking reimagining of an Oscar Wilde classic \nOscar Wilde’s century-old moral fable\, packed with witticisms\, is as devilishly wicked today as on its debut. \nSeeing himself in a dazzling new portrait\, an exquisite young man makes a Faustian wish for eternal youth. Dorian Gray throws himself into a life of wanton luxury\, drifting from the pampered salons of Victorian London to the darkest recesses of the capital\, and revelling in the splendour of his beauty which remains forever golden. Meanwhile\, the portrait – banished to an attic – becomes more and more grotesque. \nThis new interpretation of Wilde’s only novel is adapted and directed by Artistic Director Kip Williams. Collaborating once again with Eryn Jean Norvill (Suddenly Last Summer\, Romeo and Juliet)\, Williams’ re-imagining will see Norvill performing every role in the story in an audacious cascade of theatrical transformations. The inventive use of live video that made Suddenly Last Summer and The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui so visually compelling will capture and amplify every move. \n“The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it.”  Lord Henry \nContent – Adult themes\, drug use\, suicide\, theatrical haze\, herbal cigarettes \nDATE: Tuesday 3 May 2022 \nTIME: 6.30pm (approx. duration 2 hours\, no interval) \nVENUE: Roslyn Packer Theatre\, 22 Hickson Road\, Walsh Bay NSW 2000 \nTICKETS: Seniors Act 1 Season Ticket $84\, Adult A Reserve $110\, B Reserve $102\, Seniors $102 \nNote: The Convenors have purchased seats B21 and B22 \nTo buy your tickets visit www.sydneytheatrecompany.com \nPOST-THEATRE SUPPER (Optional): There will also be the option to join us for a post-theatre supper at a restaurant in Walsh Bay.
