SUMMARY:Art and Culture Tuesday 15 July 2025 - Yolŋu power: the Art of Yirrkala
DESCRIPTION:Join us at The Art Gallery of New South Wales\, North Building for a private tour. \nFor almost 100 years artists at Yirrkala have shared art as a means of cultural diplomacy – as a respectful assertion of power in its diverse forms\, from influence to authority\, sovereignty\, strength\, energy and pride. \nThis exhibition showcases the extraordinary artists of Yirrkala in north-east Arnhem Land\, Northern Territory\, and the power of their art from the 1940s to the present. Our guides will introduce us to the significant moments in Yirrkala’s history when artists have consciously altered their practice\, developed new styles or embraced new mediums. In covering multiple generations\, the exhibition highlights familial connections and cultural continuation. It also contextualises the work of individual artists within the broader school of artists from Yirrkala and surrounding Miwatj Country\, whose contribution to both Australian and\, increasingly\, international art\, is profound. \nDate:  Tuesday 15 July 2025 \nTime:  9:30am (please arrive 10 minutes before the tour start time) \nDuration:  45 minutes – 1 hour \nTIME: Meet at ‘The Hub’ in courtyard North Building AGNSW \nVenue: Ainsworth Family Gallery in Naala Badu Art Gallery of NSW\, Art Gallery Road\, Domain\, Sydney NSW 2000\, \nCost:  $25 adult and $22 concession (winter exhibition promo rate)  \nRSVP TO:  Kay Nicholas Email: kay.k.nicholas@gmail.com Mobile: 0438469044 \n RSVP BY:  8 July 2025\, please RSVP before payment. The 24th Biennale of Sydney works across time periods\, beyond the borders separating cultural practices rooted in different genealogies\, and from all continents. The exhibition owes a profound debt to the rich heritage of what is known today as Australia\, especially to the struggles and practices in which First Nations communities and migrants have faced and played key roles. \nThis edition revisits legacies of collective resistance\, strength\, and exuberance\, embracing a more hopeful and joyful outlook\, while celebrating the exhibition as a carnival of rays and radiance\, aptly titled Ten Thousand Suns. \nThe Chau Chak Wing Museum exhibiting artists:\n\nCarrolup Child Artists: Arthur Bropho\, Alma Cuttabut\, Parnell Dempster\, Phillip Jackson\, Gregory Kelly\, Edie Wallam\, and five once known child artists.\nChoy Ka Fai\nCitra Sasmita\nDiane Burns\nDoreen Chapman\nJuan Davila\nMangala Bai Maravi\nMartin Wong\nNiño de Elche & Pedro G.
