SUMMARY:East Meets West Lunch – Amah by Ho Jiak Restaurant
DESCRIPTION:This month we go for Malaysian at Amah by Ho Jiak Restaurant at the Chatswood Interchange. Amah means grandmother in a few Chinese dialects. Amah’s Head Chef is Hun Loong who was the former Head Chef of Mr. Wong\, along with Executive Chef of Ho Jiak\, Junda Khoo\, bring flair and sophistication to home-style Malaysian cooking in an ode to Loong’s late grandmother – the sole reason for the restaurant’s inception. \nMalaysian food is a lot more than just Laksa. Malaysian cuisine is a result of historical migrations from many different countries. Malaysian citizens today consist of the ethnic groups Malay Bumiputera (67.4%)\, Chinese (24.6%)\, Indians (7.3%) and Others (0.7%). \nThe Malaysians are spoiled for a myriad of choices when they eat out. You might have been confused in the past when you had Malaysian dishes – why do they taste just like Chinese food\, sometimes totally Indian\, sometimes very similar to Indonesian (Malay Bumiputera)? They are all Malaysian. Each ethnic group has their own specialty – Hainanese Chicken Rice (Chinese)\, Roti Canai (Indian)\, Nasi Lemak (Malay Bumiputera) just to name a few better known dishes among the Australians. \nOh\, too much to talk about here\, you have to visit Malaysia to find out about it yourself or join us for this lunch. \nDATE: Thursday 2 March 2023 \nTIME: 12.00pm – 2.00pm \nVENUE: Kiosk 1&2\, The District\, Podium Level\, Chatswood Interchange\,\n436 Victoria Avenue\, Chatswood TEL: (02) 91704714 \nWebsite: https://www.hojiak.com.au/chatswood/ \nCOST: $96.00 (includes gratuity). SUMMARY:Ladies Who Lunch - Watergrill Bistro\, Kirribilli Club
DESCRIPTION:After many months of uncertainty\, we are finally resuming our monthly lunches in October with some ease of mind. We contacted a number of restaurants on our ‘list” but sadly\, many of them no longer open for lunch during the pandemic\, are closed temporarily until further notice\, or require a deposit to hold a table for a group. We are also not sure how well the lunch will be attended by members given the current situation. \nWe finally decided on Watergrill Bistro at Kirribilli Club in Milsons Point. The food there is good and the view is great. It is an RSL club which means that anyone who resides within 5km radius must become a member for $10 per year\, be a guest of a member of our club\, or be a member of another RSL club and have their RSL membership card present. \nWe can only book a table for 10 people with the current NSW regulations. \nDATE:  7 October 2020 \nTIME: 12.00noon – 2.00pm \nVENUE: Watergrill Bistro\, Kirribilli Club\, 11 Harbourview Crescent\, Lavender Bay NSW 2060 \nCOST: Order and pay for your own food and drink on the day \nRSVP TO: Sandy Tay sgtay@yahoo.com or Sue Roberts at suejackharry@yahoo.com.au \nRSVP BY: 5 October 2020 \nTRANSPORT: Kirribilli Club is 500 metres from Milsons Point Train Station or 850 metres from Milsons Point Ferry Wharf. There are limited parking spaces on the premise that costs $12 per entry. One can usually find a parking space with meter in the surrounding streets.

SUMMARY:Ladies Who Lunch - Yum Cha at 'Marigold'
DESCRIPTION:‘Yum cha’ literally means drinking tea in the Cantonese dialect. It is used to describe the practice of going for dim sum\, the Cantonese tradition of brunch involving Chinese tea and dim sum. Dim sum is a style of Chinese cuisine prepared as small bite-sized portions of food served in small steamer baskets or on small plate. Dim sum dishes are usually served with tea and together form a full tea brunch. Yum cha is popular among the Chinese everywhere in the world. It is traditionally enjoyed with a big group of friends or family members. \nThe month we will sample some of the most typical dim sum dishes at the very popular ‘Marigold Chinese Restaurant’ in the CBD.
