SUMMARY:Art And Culture: Macquarie University Art Gallery and MORE!
DESCRIPTION:Guided Tour: Joe Frost ‘Between Stations’\, Paula Dawson\, Hologram “To Absent Friends”  \nAnd Sculpture Park PLUS Brunch.  \n \n  \nWhat a fabulous day out we have planned for May Art and Culture lovers.  \nWe will start the day at Macquarie University’s Art Gallery. The University lies on the fringe of a region of north-western Sydney that Joe Frost has drawn and painted since the 1990s. ‘Between Stations’ presents a selection of these works alongside a new project that places the artist’s hand-painted banners and placards at outdoor locations within the area\, documented and exhibited in the MUAG.  Reflecting an individual’s evolving relationship to their place of origin\, ‘Between Stations’ relates personal history to public space in an urban environment characterised by change. \nOur guide for this exhibition is the artist himself\, Joe Frost. Joe will talk us through each of his works\, while Rhonda Davis\, Senior Gallery Curator\, will join us. \nAfter the tour\, we will see Paula Dawson’s hologram\, entitled To Absent Friends. The largest hologram on an international scale of its time\, To Absent Friends was awarded the Grand Prix of the First ARTEC Biennale in Nagoya\, Japan in 1989. It explores the concept of using contemporary domestic architecture as a memory repository for emotional states.  \nAfter this\, we will be served a delicious morning tea\, consisting of a selection of muffins/pastries (GF/V options)\, tea/coffee. \nAfter eating and chatting\, we can stroll across to the Sculpture Park before heading home. “Established in 1992\, the Sculpture Park features local and global artists such as Richard Byrnes\, David Jensz\, Gary Deirmendjian\, Margaret Sheridan\, Paul Hopmeier and its founder\, the late Errol Davis (1926 – 2009). It’s the largest of its kind in the southern hemisphere and aims to show a wide variety of sculpture techniques\, including works in concrete\, sandstone\, limestone\, stainless steel\, bronze and copper.” \nDATE: Tuesday May 19\, 2026 \nTIME: 10.20am for a 10.30am start at Gallery \nDuration of Outing: 4 hours (or thereabouts) \nVENUE: Macquarie University Art Gallery and campus. \nADDRESS: University Art Gallery is located at the end 19 Eastern Rd\, The Chancellery building \nTRANSPORT OPTIONS: \nBus: The nearest bus stop is Macquarie Centre\, which services bus routes from across the city. SUMMARY:Art & Culture : 25th Biennale of Sydney tour
DESCRIPTION:Our next Art & Culture tour will be visiting the 25th Biennale of Sydney at White Bay Power Station. \nBACKGROUND: The Biennale of Sydney is one of the leading international contemporary art events. Since its inception in 1973\, the Biennale of Sydney has provided a platform for art and ideas celebrated at home and around the world. How lucky are we to have it right on our doorstep! \nThe theme of the 25th Biennale of Sydney is ReMemory. The term ‘rememory’ was coined by Toni Morrison in her bestselling novel\, Beloved. \nThe official website reads: “A means of revisiting\, reconstructing\, and reclaiming histories that have been erased or repressed\, Rememory signifies the intersection of memory and history\, where recollection becomes an act of reassembling fragments of the past—whether personal\, familial\, or collective. The 25th edition of the Biennale connects the delicate space between remembering and forgetting. By engaging with Rememory\, artists will highlight marginalised narratives\, share untold stories\, and inspire audiences to rethink how memory shapes identity\, belonging\, and the creation and celebration of new communities and connections”. \nArtistic Director\, Hoor Al Qasimi is quoted as saying “Sydney has a multicultural community at its core\, with people from different cultures from across the world choosing and calling this vibrant city as their home. I’m interested in exploring the multifaceted cultures and perspectives within this city\, working with local artists and communities\, as well as bringing new voices to the Biennale. It is an honour and privilege to be nominated and then selected to be Artistic Director of the 25th Biennale of Sydney\, which I have been visiting for over a decade now. I have seen the developments over the years\, including the amplification of Indigenous voices both local and global\, which has made it an essential platform for rewriting art history.” \nTOUR DURATION – 60 minutes \nMEETING PLACE: White Bay Forecourt\, or if too hot/wet\, the Info Hub at the entrance. \nMORNING TEA/BRUNCH: There is nothing formally organised\, however\, there are food trucks at the venue\, or we can wander to Rozelle\, Balmain for something.  \nBe sure to book your place ASAP to experience this incredibly fascinating exhibition. SUMMARY:Art & Culture Ron Mueck - Encounter Guided Tour: Tuesday 17 February 2026 Art Gallery of New South Wales Naala Badu building
DESCRIPTION:Ron Mueck: Encounter brings an unparalleled selection of the acclaimed Australian artist’s sculptures exclusively to Sydney. \nSince revitalising figurative sculpture in the late 1990s with his exquisitely crafted realism\, Melbourne-born Mueck continues his profound observation of human experience and emotion. His captivating figures\, scaled from the monumental to the minute\, embody themes such as birth and death\, alienation\, and togetherness\, tenderly inviting us to explore our relationship with the world. \nAt the centre of the exhibition is Havoc\, a new immersive work featuring a group of larger-than-life fighting dogs\, created especially for this moment. Oversized\, yet charged with a quiet\, unsettling intensity\, Havoc invites viewers into a space that is at once intimate and ominous. \nThis exhibition encourages audiences to connect with Mueck’s sculptures through encounters that feel viscerally physical. Drawing the artist’s past sculptures into dialogue with the new\, the show reflects on the sensitivity and significance of Mueck’s work within our tense contemporary times. \nA Sydney exclusive\, Ron Mueck: Encounter marks the artist’s most significant solo exhibition in Australia in over a decade\, and his first in Sydney since 2003. \nDATE: Tuesday 17 February 2026 \nTIME: 9.30am -11.30am \nVENUE: Art Gallery NSW\, Naala Badu building\, lower ground floor. \nADDRESS:  Art Gallery Rd\, The Domain Sydney NSW 2000 \nMEETING PLACE:  Welcome Hub in the outdoor Welcome Plaza of Naala Badu\, (the new building) \nTime: 9.20am for a 9.30am private tour by AGNSW Experienced Lead Guides. \nTOUR DURATION – 45 – 60 minutes \nCOST OF GUIDED TOUR: \n\n$55: Adult rate\n$50: Seniors Concession rate\n$43 NSW Art Gallery Members (please advise your membership number)\nNote: As from September 2025 the AGNSW charges a $5 surcharge pp for tours commencing prior to the Gallery opening time.
