SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Visit to Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Guided Tour: Ken Done Liveable Art and Design
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a visit to The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre\, a cultural facility of the Liverpool City Council on the banks of the Georges River. \nBuilt in 1951 by the NSW Electricity Commission\, the Casula Powerhouse was erected to supplement electricity production during Winter and power shortages. The Powerhouse was decommissioned in 1976 and bought by Liverpool Council\, but it wasn’t until 1994 that an ambitious development saw the former Powerhouse reimagined as the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.  The Centre now houses an international standard exhibition space; a 322seat state of art theatre; a multi-purpose performance space; artists’ studios; three exhibition spaces and much more\, as you will discover. \nFollowing an introduction to the Arts Centre\, we will have a guided tour by Ellen Hewitt\, Curator of one of the current exhibitions – Liveable Art: Stories of Done Art and Design. This exhibition brings together a large collection of Done designed clothing\, accessories\, stationery and homewares for a public exhibition. Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre has been working with people across Australia and internationally who have cherished their Ken Done items at home over the years. The stories from these collectors have been captured and will feature in the exhibition\, alongside a wide range of Ken Done Art and Design products. \nDATE: Tuesday 19 July 2022 \nTIME: Introduction to Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre and Tour – 11.30am – 12.30pm  approximately \nVENUE: Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre\, 1 Powerhouse Rd\, Casula NSW 2170 \nPHONE: (02) 8711 7123 \nCOST: $5 pp – pay on the day. SUMMARY:Art & Culture - The 64th Blake Prize at the Casula Powerhouse
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]This year THE BLAKE PRIZE will move to The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. The Casula Powerhouse was originally built in 1951 to provide electricity during winter. It closed in 1976 and became derelict until the Liverpool Council restored it as an arts centre in 1994.  It was refurbished again in 2008 and now houses international exhibition space\, theatres\, studios and artists’ residency spaces. \nJoin Art & Culture on 16 February for a private guided tour of The 64th Blake Prize\, and at the same time enjoy a piece of Sydney’s history. \nThe Blake Prize takes its name from William Blake\, an artist of undoubted genius\, who appeared to belong to no school and succeeded in integrating religious and artistic content in his work.  The Prize aims to encourage contemporary artists to create significant works of art which engage in relevant conversations and negotiations. \nDate: 16 February 2016 \nTime: 9.25am – 1.00pm \nVenue: Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre\, 1 Powerhouse Road\, Casula \nCost: $5.00    Payable on the day \nRSVP to Carole Hopper at Chopper2@bigpond.net.au OR 0413 887 435 by 11 February 2016 \nTransport: We will meet on Platform 19 at Central Railway Station at 9.25am for a 9.42am departure by train to Casula.
