SUMMARY:Theatre Group - 'Orange Thrower' - Griffin/SBW Stables Theatre
DESCRIPTION:For this month’s Theatre Group\, we will see Kirsty Mariller’s award-winning debut play\, Orange Thrower. Directed with zest by musician\, performer and director Zindzi Okenyo\, and starring a kick-arse ensemble playing larger-than-life characters\, Orange Thrower rolls into the 2022 Season\, ripe and ready for an unforgettable premiere on the SBW Stables stage. \nCo-produced with Riverside’s National Theatre of Parramatta\, it is a fresh twist on the Australian coming-of-age story. A joyful comedy\, the play is set in the very white Perth suburb of Paradise\, where Zadie is charged with looking after the family home and her young sister while her parents are in Johannesburg visiting relatives. \nEverything changes when an unexpected visitor bursts back into Zadie’s life in the middle of the night\, breaking the silence with loud music and even louder opinions. To make matters worse\, someone’s been pelting the house with oranges. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - "Is There Something Wrong With That Lady?" - by Debra Oswald
DESCRIPTION:Directed by Lee Lewis with Debra Oswald \nAs a lapsed playwright\, creator of the Offspring TV series\, former Junior Champion Hypochondriac\, and a floundering novelist\, what should Debra Oswald‘s next move be? And what motivates people to write or create more ‘stuff’ anyway? Shame? Fear of death? The hope of more sexual offers? \nFor now\, Debra plans to seize control of the Griffin stage: the exact location she fell in love with theatre\, aged 11\, and the place her plays Mr Bailey’s Minder and The Peach Season came to life. \nIn a funny and excruciatingly honest one-woman show\, Debra tells stories about her neurotic childhood\, clumsy romantic history\, and the anxieties and joys of the writer’s life – all in the hope that the audience can help her work out that ever-important question: what comes next? And having waited for this show to be staged since its original 2020 season… it’s kind of urgent. \nDATE: Thursday\, 22 April 2021 \nTIME: 7.00pm (6.00pm for pre-performance drinks) \nVENUE: SBW Stables (Griffin Theatre Company)\, 10 Nimrod Street\, Kings Cross\, NSW 2011 \nTICKETS: $40 \nWe have bought tickets for Seats 43 and 44. \nTo purchase your ticket go to boxoffice@griffintheatre.com.au or phone (02) 9361 3817\n10.00am – 6.00pm weekdays. SUMMARY:Theatre Group - "Prima Facie" at the Griffin Theatre
DESCRIPTION:For this month’s Theatre Group we will see the Australian Premiere of Prima Facie by Suzy Miller\, a one-woman show starring Sheridan Harbridge as Tessa – a criminal lawyer at the top of her game. \nWinner of the 2018 Griffin Award\, Prima Facie is an indictment of the Australian legal system’s failure to provide reliable pathways to justice for women in rape\, sexual assault or harassment cases. It’s a work of fiction\, but one that could have been ripped from the headlines of any paper\, any day of the week\, so common you could cry. \nSheridan Harbridge is one of Sydney’s most beloved and versatile performers. She last appeared on the Griffin stage in David Finnigan’s audacious political comedy Kill Climate Deniers\, which wowed and shocked audiences and critics alike. \nTurning Sydney’s courts of law into a different kind of stage\, Suzie Miller’s (Sunset Strip\, Caress/Ache) taut\, rapid-fire and gripping one-woman show exposes the shortcomings of a patriarchal justice system where it’s her word against his. \nDATE: Thursday 18 June 2019 \nTIME: 7.00pm \nVENUE: Griffin Theatre Company\, 10 Nimrod Street\, Kings Cross\, NSW 2011 \nTICKETS: Tickets are $62 Full and $52 Concession. To buy your ticket visit boxoffice@griffintheatre.com.au or call (02) 9361 3817\, 10.00am – 6.00pm Monday–Friday \nPRE-THEATRE DINNER: 5.30pm\, Malabar Restaurant (South Indian food)\, 274 Victoria Street\, Darlinghurst (on the corner across from the Coca Cola sign).
