SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Marion Hall Best: Interiors
DESCRIPTION:Enjoy something a little different in July and join Art & Culture for a visit to the Hazelhurst Gallery and Arts Centre for a tour of the gallery’s current exhibition that colourfully charts the work of Marion Hall Best\, whose interior decorating style vibrated with colour through her signature glazed painted finishes on walls and ceilings. On display is original furniture\, fabrics\, furnishings and fashion over the four decades from the mid-1930s. Described as ‘electrifying\, vital and avant-garde’\, Best’s interior decorating schemes were unashamedly modern at a time when other interior designers preferred a subdued palette and period furniture. Best was inspired by the modernist movement and colour theory of artists of the interwar years. She is attributed with introducing international modernism to the Australian market through importing furniture and furnishings from all over the world including: textiles by Marimekko\, Jim Thompson Thai silks and Indian cottons\, French wallpapers from Nobilis and Follot\, furniture by Knoll\, Herman Miller and Cassina\, lighting from Flos and Iittala. \nDATE: Tuesday 17 July 2018 \nTIME: Meet at the Gallery at 10.50am for our tour that commences at 11.00am \nVENUE: The Hazelhurst Gallery and Arts Centre\, 782 Kingsway\, Gymea NSW 2227 \nThe Gallery is situated on 1.4 hectares of landscaped grounds.  Please join us for lunch at the delightful Hazelhurst Café. SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Nganampa Kililpil: Our Stars - The Best of Aboriginal Art
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]If you are new to Sydney and haven’t been to the Hazelhurst Gallery in Gymea\, or just love Aboriginal art\, then this exhibition is a MUST. \nThis is the first major survey exhibition from the seven art centres of the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunyjatjara (APY) Lands\, located in remote South Australia. It features 50 works by 50 artists\, including paintings by the five Ken sisters\, the winners of this year’s Wynne prize. \nBelinda Hanrahan\, Director of the Hazelhurst Regional Art Gallery and Arts Centre said “This is the most significant and most ambitious project for a regional gallery to do. It’s a huge undertaking and we know it will bring people from not just Sydney but from regional areas of New South Wales and beyond as it is such a rare opportunity to see this spectacular work from seven major Indigenous art centres in remote central Australia. The works will be in our exhibition space as well as installations in other parts of the gallery and our expansive gardens.” \nPaintings from the APY Lands region are celebrated for the artists’ strong use of colour and dynamic movement and for their specific way of transforming their stories. The highlights of the exhibition will be two 3 x 5 metre collaborative paintings featuring artists from each of the seven art centres – the first time that artists from across the APY Lands have worked together on a single painting. \nPlease join us for a private guided tour of this amazing exhibition – A MUST for lovers of Indigenous Art! \nDATE: Tuesday 18 October 2016 \nTIME: 10.50am for 11.00am private guided tour.
