SUMMARY:EXPLORE SYDNEY WALK : Manly Head and Q Station
DESCRIPTION:This morning we will do a loop from Manly Wharf\, exploring North Head and the Q station and having lunch at Shelly Beach.\nFrom the wharf\, we’ll take the bus to the Q station. This enduring part of Sydney’s history once served as the Quarantine Station for migrants arriving in Australia. The buildings have been kept in pristine\, original condition and are set in the most glorious 30 hectare site. We will be able to walk around and explore all of these heritage buildings. There is also a small museum next to the cafe on a little beach at the bottom of the park.\nFrom here we will do a lovely bush walk through North Head to Shelly beach where we can have lunch in the Boathouse (https://theboathousesb.com.au/) before walking back to the wharf.\nIt is a 7km round trip with plenty of time to visit and relax. There are some steps from the bottom of the quarantine station and part of the bush walk is not on the boardwalk. The path is clear and downhill for about 10 minutes. \nDATE: Wednesday\, August 14 2024. \nTIME: 10 am – 12md plus lunch time \nMEETING POINT: Manly Wharf\, outside the Information Center at 10 am.\nWe will get the 161 Bus to North head at 10.12am. SUMMARY:EXPLORE SYDNEY WALK : Manly Art Gallery and coastal walk to the Harbord Diggers
DESCRIPTION:Our first stop is a visit to Manly Art Gallery & Museum. This is the first metropolitan based regional gallery in NSW\, established in 1930. It is a small gallery with an interesting collection of works. The exhibition from 14th June-28th July is a multimedia art installation about storytelling. From here we will walk to Harbord Diggers along Manly\, Queenscliff and Freshwater beaches and boardwalk hoping to see some whales. It’s an easy walk (7 km round trip) with marvellous views and a few steps between Queenscliff and Freshwater. \nLunch at the Harbord Diggers\, for those who would like\, then walk back to Manly wharf. SUMMARY:Challenging Walk – The Seventh (and FINAL!) Leg of Bondi to Manly Walk – North Head: Manly Wharf to Manly Beach
DESCRIPTION:At the end of 2018\, six city councils along with other agencies\, decided to create a coastal and harbour-side walking track between two famous beaches in Sydney\, Bondi Beach and Manly Beach. The result of this collaboration is the epic 80km Bondi to Manly Walk. The details can be found on www.bonditomanly.com or the B2M app. We will walk the Bondi to Manly Walk in seven stages together\, walking one stage at a time on the first Tuesday of the month from June to December. \nIn December\, we will do the seventh (and final!)  leg of Bondi to Manly Walk from Manly Wharf to Manly Beach via North Head Sanctuary. The walk is approximately 10km with an elevation gain of 240m. The walk will take around 3 hours to complete. \nFrom Manly Wharf\, we will walk up past many small coves and beaches\, to the historic Quarantine Station at North Head\, where North Head Sanctuary\, The Barracks\, Memorial Walk and Gun Emplacement Tunnels are located. \nFollowing on from North Head\, we will reach the quaint Shelly Beach\, renowned for its small shells which make up a large portion of the sand. From here\, it’s a short walk to the finish\, passing Fairy Bower Seawater Pool and Manly Surf Life Saving Club\, and eventually ending at Manly Beach.
