SUMMARY:Monthly Activity - Urban Farming
DESCRIPTION:Could Urban Farming be the answer to the global problem of the rapid increase in the need to feed the world’s population? Could direct access to fresh vegetables\, fruits\, and meat products through urban agriculture improve food security and food safety? \nLearn about the first-of-its-kind urban farm in Sydney. Established on an unused bowling green\, Pocket City Farm includes a 1200m2 ecological market garden growing vegetables for the local community\, a community food forest\, composting program\, propagation greenhouse\, and chickens. \nIn this tour\, we will see how Pocket City Farms take Sydney’s neglected spaces\, from spare plots to rooftops\, in an effort to make good use of that unused space by growing fresh organic produce. \nWe will take a tour of their pilot farm\, where we will learn about city farming\, the benefits of urban farming\, the farm’s daily operations and farming methods\, as we take a walk through the different areas of the farm. \nDATE: Thursday 26 September 2019 \nTIME: 12noon – 1.00pm – followed by lunch at the Acre Eatery for a farm-to-table dining experience\, at your own cost.
