SUMMARY:Monthly Activity - The Jewish Museum of Sydney
DESCRIPTION:To start our 2023 program of Monthly Activities\, we will be having a guided tour of the Jewish Museum by one of our own members who also volunteers at the Museum. \nThe Sydney Jewish Museum was established in 1992 by the generation of Holocaust survivors who came to Australia. They envisioned the Museum as a place which could hold their stories and personal objects\, memorialise those who were murdered during the Holocaust\, and within which the lessons from the past would be taught. \nThe Jewish Museum is a place that holds the voices of history\, and in which survivors still share their experiences with visitors. The Sydney Jewish Museum is an institution that gives history a voice through collecting and preserving historic objects\, commemorating and educating\, with a mission to challenge visitors’ perceptions of morality\, social justice\, democracy and human rights. \nThe Museum has welcomed multiple generations through their doors\, some as students who have returned later in life as adults. Visitors have learnt about the history of the murder of 6 million Jewish people in the Holocaust; they have kept their memories alive and taken away the important messages of tolerance and the dangers of prejudice. \nThirty years since its inception\, the Museum continues to give a voice to the victims of the Holocaust so their stories can start conversations and inspire change. \nAt the end of the tour\, for those who would like to have lunch\, I will book for us at the Rusty Rabbit. \nDATE: Thursday 19 January 2023 \nTIME: 10.30am to 12pm \nVENUE: Sydney Jewish Museum\, 148 Darlinghurst Rd\, Darlinghurst. Additional options include the 339 bus stopping on Flinders Street\, or the 440 bus stopping on Oxford Street\, both just a 10-minute walk to the Museum. \nFrom Kings Cross Station\, the walk to the Museum takes approximately 10 minutes. \nStreet parking is limited and ticketed. Parking is available in St Vincent’s Hospital car park.

SUMMARY:Art & Culture - Jewish Museum - ‘Shaken to the Core’: Sidney Nolan
DESCRIPTION:‘Shaken to the Core’ brings together Australian Artist\, Sidney Nolan’s\, confronting works responding to the Holocaust. This exhibition is of a body of works created by Nolan in 1961 following the Eichmann Trial and a visit to the Auschwitz camp. The works were buried away until they were exhibited for the first time in August 2021 at the Sidney Nolan Trust in Heredfordshire\, England. \nPlease join us in the Auditorium at the Sydney Jewish Museum for a curatorial introduction by our SWIC Member and Museum Guide\, Carole Hopper. At the conclusion of Carole’s introduction you will be given a booklet for your own self- guided tour of the exhibition. \nPlease note this Art & Culture event is on WEDNESDAY 19 October as Tuesday 18 October is a Jewish holiday. Also note the time: 2.00pm-3.30pm to avoid the crowds that this exhibition has attracted. DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Our September Special Activity is a tour of the Sydney Jewish Museum. \nThe guided tour of the Museum will commence at 1.00pm. This tour is being held in the afternoon as the museum conducts tours for school children in the mornings.
