DESCRIPTION:When an Irish knight was caught kidnapping a local heiress\, his punishment was swift: exile to a single-storey cottage in NSW.\nOver five decades\, new owners transformed the cottage into a large and picturesque estate.\nBy the 1830s\, the gardens and grounds covered most of the present-day suburb of Vaucluse but the main house of the family’s dreams was still unfinished. In 1915 Vaucluse House became Australia’s first official house museum and continues today to delight and intrigue visitors with its stories and still-secluded grounds. \nVaucluse House is a 19th-century estate with house\, kitchen wing\, stables and outbuildings\, surrounded by 11 hectares (28 acres) of formal gardens and grounds located on the south-eastern shores of Port Jackson. The house is one of the few 19th-century houses near Sydney Harbour retaining a significant part of its original setting. \nDATE: Thursday 10 April 2025 \nTIME: 11.00- 12.00 pm. SUMMARY:Easy Walk - The Goods Line to Darling Harbour
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]We started the year with a bush walk\, then a coastal walk\, and now we offer a city walk. \nThe Goods Line is a partly elevated urban walkway from Sydney Central Station to Darling Harbour that follows the route of the once bustling but long neglected railway line. After completion of a $15 million transformation\, The Goods Line re-opened to the public on Sunday 30 August 2015 as a walkway\, linear park and open space. It passes by the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) and you can see the new Frank Gehry designed Business School (resembling a brown paper bag). \nAs it is the school holidays\, you are welcome to bring your children on this walk.
