A heart-warming comedy about the highs and lows of family life.
Sophie is an aspiring archaeologist, who left home when she was 20, but not without protest from her Australian-Jordanian family.
With an awkward family reunion looming, Sophie is petrified of judgement from her ‘mad’ Aunty Azza and is forced to bury the truth about her life, including her career and her Aussie girlfriend, Sam. But, worst of all, is the fear that she’s also been lying to herself.
Looking deep into the heart of Sydney and beyond, Jump for Jordan unpacks the experience common to countless second-generation Australians of being caught between two cultures. Sifting through shifting layers of past and present, farce and fantasy, it’s one woman’s mad, messy excavation of her own history, and her attempt to piece together the broken bits of her identity. Donna Abela’s Jump for Jordan took out the Griffin Award in 2013, wowing the judges with its vitality and ambition. This production is directed by Griffin Studio director Iain Sinclair.
The development of Jump for Jordan has been supported by Playwriting Australia, the University of Wollongong, and the Department of Performance Studies at the University of Sydney.
