President’s Message – June 2026

Dear Members

Well, it’s June and the beginning of winter proper. This is a busy month for tidying up financial and taxation records, in readiness for the end of the financial year on 30 June, but I always think that the best thing, to look forward to in June, is that the shortest day of the year occurs on the 21st/22nd. After that, each day gets longer, with more daylight, which I always think is good for the spirit.

Also, there are lots of activities coming up in June to keep you entertained.

On 2 June there will be a Challenging Walk from Rose Bay to Circular Quay which is an urban hike of about 10 km through the eastern harbour suburbs; and then on 10 June, an Explore Sydney Walk will provide you with a scenic exploration of Balmain East, taking in harbour-side parks and city views with historical insights.

On Wednesday 10 June, Ladies Night Out invites you to Bollywood – a dinner with Pakistani cuisine at the Dastan restaurant in Mosman – described as an evening of sparkle, colour, dinner and dancing.

Then two days later, on 12 June, there is a Garden Tour of the Eryldene Camellia Collection, described as one of the most historically important camellia collections in Australia, followed by morning tea in this wonderfully historic house and garden.

On Tuesday 16 June, the Art and Culture group will enjoy a private guided tour, conducted by Les Mosely, of the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman Exhibitions at the NSW Art Gallery, with morning tea to follow.

Music lovers will be delighted to see that Classical Music events are starting up again, the first being on Thursday 18 June, with the Sydney Symphonic Orchestra performing that wonderfully iconic piece of orchestral music, Beethoven’s 5th, conducted by a young German conductor. It will be followed by Schumann’s Cello Concerto.

For those particularly interested in sporting events, also on Thursday 18 June, Out ’n’ About will take you on a behind-the-scenes guided tour of the Allianz Stadium, one of Sydney’s leading sporting venues.

Finally on Sunday 21 June, the Theatre Group will see a production of The Roommate, at the Ensemble Theatre in Kirribilli, described as a dark comedy with a cast of only two women.

Meanwhile, it is wonderful to see Neighbourhood Morning Tea now becoming quite regular and increasingly popular. This month they are occurring as follows:

Monday 1 June – Upper North Shore at the Runaway Spoon in Lindfield;

Wednesday 3 June – Northern Beaches at the Manly Pacific Hotel;

Tuesday 23 June – Lower North Shore at The Boathouse, Balmoral Beach; and

Friday 26 June – Inner West and Surrounding Suburbs at the Rumilicious Restaurant in Pyrmont.

So, I hope you can stay warm and enjoy all the activities in the month of June.
